Last week I finally managed to take the P38 to 4x4 Development where a test for (carbon monoxide?) in the coolant tank confirmed the worst.

The plan is to get the engine out and over to Turners where it will be rebuilt with liners, kent cam and I think a stage 1 ported / gas flowed head. May as well whilst it is out. The slight leak on the torque converter can also be fixed. Dave at 4x4 suggested we replace the rad and a few other bits at the same time, which I guess makes sense other than financially Laughing

I could get an exchange unit from Turners but that would then not be matching numbers, which seems a bit daft. I've no expectation she'll be worth a great deal in X years, but then I guess folk cutting up Suffix As for trialing thought the same.

If you get top hat liners fitted, ask Turners to NOT machine off the engine number when they deck the block.

She’s gone to the menders…finally! A friend of mine has lots of experience with Rover V8s and has done nut and bolt rebuilds on a range of cars from Jensens to Classic RR, E-type and 911, top man. Looking forward to the results

She’s back. Bit of engine fettling, bodywork, chassis clean and treatment, interior tidy, new discs all around, all fresh fluids, new decals….just in time to get muddy in the shooting season.

That looks fantastic. WOW. I like the red piping on the seats.

Scotland 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Fuji White

Loved my P38, H & H in Tintern Green, exquisite wood trim.

I sold in the end as fuel consumption of the 4.6 was terrible as a tow car, I towed my off-roader across the heads-of-the-valleys to Carmarthen, average 7.7mpg. Cost me over £400 for the return trip and that's at fuel priced 10 years ago.

After the HVAC blend motors failed for the 3rd time I'd had enough and got rid.

Shame they never found a cure for those servos, I'd have kept it as it only 48k on it.

That’s bad luck with the blend motors, I’ve had a couple of P38s and fortunately not had a problem. Obviously that will be the next thing to go….I do try to remember to go through all of the settings on the HVAC every now and again to ensure things keep moving.

I did a trip to the Alps in it a few year back and from memory got 16mpg, 4 up with kit.

Honestly I can’t ever see them being worth a great deal even with Kendal Jenner (?) buying one recently, but a sorted one is still a nice place to be.

And they are really quite small compared to the modern RR or Disco 5.
