Land rover should absolutely be fixing this for free but there's more chance of seeing a sow at 20000 feet! Thanks scary but I've seen that thread and it really doesn't help as the 'plastic bag' which supposedly does this job looks nothing like the diagram on the spec sheet I've seen. Doesn't appear to make any sense, at least not to me. And there's nothing about the source of the leak and how to fix it so if anyone has simple instructions on fitting these and or how to fix the leak it really would be a great help. Cheers and thanks for the welcome to the forum, loved range rovers since I was a kid but, and call me a slow learner, but I never realised quite what a nightmare they are to own. Fantastic but seriously flawed and extremely frustrating but you have to learn to embrace all that I guess. Cheers richard

If it sheds water it will sit over the top and 'shed' the water

Interesting thing is if you have a water leak and it "sheds" water, where does it shed the water to and how much water can it shed before the pool on the floor starts to cause problems with evaporation etc which then collects under the "water shedder" and then drips down on the bits you were trying to protect in the first place.
You really don't want plastic bags in cars protecting things from water.
About the daftest solution to a problem I have heard of in years.
Why not sort the water leak it, can't be that difficult, probably easier than trying to fit a useless "water shedder".

It's not really possible to take a photo, as it's almost entirely hidden behind all the infotainment boxes.

To fit it, you need to remove all the boxes as if removing the tv tuner.

1. Take out the spare cover from the boot
2. Take out the plastic AV floor cover on the LHS this will give you better access to the all the AV equipment
3. Remove the key from the ignition and wait for 2 mins.
4. Prepare to remove everything, you HAVE to take the whole thing out to get at the mounting bolts.
5. Remove the mounting bolts as discussed here: http://files.me.com/stevegt/rql3cm (this was a life saver).
6. You'll be able to disconnect some of the modules and remove. Put them to one side somewhere safe.
7. Lift the frame out and everything still attached in one go. To do this you'll have to unplug it all. Don't be afraid at this point it will all go back together (as long as you get the plugs in the right places).

Then you can fit the shredder, it should be obvious how it fits when you have everything out.

Start to finish should taken between 1 and 2 hours to do yourself.

I had another look at it last night and managed to fit the shedder without removing all the gizmos.

I undone the top two nuts and gently Bent the top of the mounting cage forward.

This enabled me to 'stuff' the shedder behind the cage and then locate the predrilled holes over the two mounting studs.

I tucked and pushed the plastic into place then bent the cage back into position trapping the shedder behind.

It looks as if it will do the job of keeping any moisture away from the gizmos.

Having just paid £2300 for a new quater panel to be fitted and painted I think I know where the water gathered after it leaked in. That said I dont see any damage to the Nav unit.

L322, so where did the water gather? I want to try and reduce the risk of water ingress.

EVOeng, I was shown inside the rear of the the car with everything stripped out, including the rear bumper removed, and the bottom of the quater panel forms a well like channel where water can just gather.
The question yet to be answered is where is the water leaking from in the first place.
Some people say the rear side window, the body shop told me that they suspected it was coming up around the plastic door-slam vent, located amongst the radio units. I found a rubber grommet displaced high up where the tail door hinges are located. The first evidence that I saw was exterior paint blistering at the bottom of the quater panel right above the bumper and there is no way to repair it only replace it cause its gone too far by this stage. A water shredder may well protect the electronics in that area but Land Rover should have a better solution to the problem.
