even if you use grease your all missing the point,
if you can keep water from getting in it wont corrode.

The grease does help but a sealed cap works even better

I would suggest to remove all the caps, then remove the corrosion,
then get some silicone,
and glue the caps in place with a thin bead .

FWIW I would also keep an eye on the cargo hatch lights,
fold the cover up so you can see the lights go out when the top hatch is closed ,

I would have to say that lowering the operating temperature of the BMW M62 engine will prolong the usefulness all of the parts .

Funny how many owners experienced the expansion tanks blowing up or ...
