Has anyone else had problems with 2010MY TDV8 RR brakes? I was disgusted to see that my car came without the Brembo brakes of the previous years and even more disgusted that they are being fitted to the new 2011MY cars. The feel of the pedal and the bite is useless. I have a a few scary moments with them. Land-Rover say take the car to the dealer, dealer says they are normal, I say but they are nowhere near as good as the old cars. Dealer says, yes we know, but they are as standard and what the car is supplied with.

Help and ammunition needed as I need to go back to Land-Rover to get this sorted. Thanks. 2016 RR SDV8 Vogue (Aintree Green)

The brakes aren't as good as my older 4.4 v8 on my mates 2010.

He's on his 3rd set of discs and pads under warranty !!!

They still feel spongey in comparison! TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

In the lack of a better word, you got marketing F***ed...

I had a rant a while back about the lack of brembos on MY2010, and it just shows you got caught in a marketing scam.
For the first SC (2006MY), LR intruduced the brembos, then in the 2007MY 3.6 tdv8, LR lauched the car with the same brembos as the SC. The argument was that it had great performance, the same suspention settings as the SC, etc...

Now, the problem is that the 3.6 goes much more than the 3.0 td6, so having the same stupid attitude as they had on 2006-2007 is just plain idiotic. If the 3.6 goes the same as in 2009, why remove the brakes? Just so they can add them once again for 2011 and print some lettering on the catalogue saying that the 4.4 needs bigger brakes (casually the same as the SC...)

As much as the displays are nice to look at, 2010 was not a good year to go and buy a RR.

Apologies to the guys here that bought them, but with a new engine on the pipeline, a new gearbox (for the new 4.4 and also for the SC), new interior designs, the 2010 would always become a bit like a 2006. A mid-series car that will always come short in terms of software, extras, etc... as it happens on 2006MY (plenty of examples here in the forum on phone problems, ipods, etc...)

How do you get Land-Rover to admit that their cost cutting exercise is dangerous? With 3500kg on the back I'm sure I'm an accident waiting to happen. The first time my Wife drove the car and braked, she screamed in horror at the lack of retardation!

Quite frankly if they have removed the very good brakes and just fitted OK brakes for the cars design, I think that's appauling. Were they just hoping people wouldn't notice and buy it for the new face before adding the mechanical upgrades?

It's not cheap and you shouldn't have to do it but... there are Bembro upgrades available for older cars that will give you what LR should still be fitting.

Take it back and ask for a FULL refund.

Who knows Seems to stop OK  Currently running FFRR MY10 TDV8 3.6L and a Disco 3 XS Commercial (tank like but very effective as a Company van). Plus one mint condition Track Day Car in the form of an E36 M3 3.2L Evolution circa June 1996 with lots of go faster bits and only 52k miles on the clock! Oh, plus a few bits to make it slow down really quickly as well! Luvverly.

Oh Dear!!

Old girl back in today at 11,000 miles (having just returned from Spain) for another set of front discs. Warped (quite badly) making steering wheel very juddery (spelling) at anything over 50mph. All warranty Sir!!

Er....I assume TDV8 2010 is not the same as the V8? I have done 20,000 miles and still on original discs and pads - no issues, no warnings and it stops on a sixpence....better braking than my 2006 SC  Land Rover Addict

The 2010 V8 SC has Brembos..........it's just the TDV8 that L-R thought they could get away with some half baked brakes on.........big mistake, that's why they're back on the 2011MY cars. 2016 RR SDV8 Vogue (Aintree Green)

Why are the 2010mdls brakes so bad ? My old td6 vogues brakes are really good. Changed discs this year for the first time at 36k miles,plus second set of pads !

If your brakes are struggling to slow the laden trailer, its the trailer brakes you need to adjust.

To suggest that the brakes are "half baked" or "dangerous" is a bit dramatic. I'd concentrate on making sure that you have good quality pads fitted on clean discs. (ie, New discs have anti-corrosion coating to prevent them rusting in the box, that needs to be washed off with solvent or else they are lethal..)

Consider flushing the fluid and checking what comes out.. Get it on a rolling brake tester to make sure everything is balanced and there isn't a sticky piston or collapsed flexi..

Try another dealer, ask for an independent assessment (RAC / AA).. I've had my fair share of shocking service at main dealers and will never get my car serviced there... ever.

With all due respect, I'd be amazed if you had any luck getting past first base with Trading Standards..

DeltaC....The trailer in question is brand new, with new brakes properly set up. The RR has been like it from new and is just the same as the other 2010MY models I have tried. Compare it with a pre 2010MY TDV8 and you'd notice a massive difference. Other owners that have 2010 TDV8's and have had the earlier Brembo clad cars, that I have spoken to all report the same thing.

On the TD6 I had about 4 years ago the brakes were fine, but then the difference in performance over a TDV8 is considerable. 2016 RR SDV8 Vogue (Aintree Green)

Hi Rudler - I know it isn't the answer you are looking for, but can you not simply upgrade the current brake calipers and pads on your car, to the Brembo versions you prefer?

I thought it was just a question of replacing those actual parts - or - is it more involved because other parts of the brake system also needing upgrading?

I would have thought/hoped that LR Parts would, in the very least, allow you a considerable discount on these items considering you have recently purchased your car - and with transportation/towing being your speciality?
