brakes squealing

Hi all, just changed the brake pads on all corners, replaced the sensors, discs all ok, got rid of the error code job done i thought, after a couple of days every time i brake i get an annoying squeal, I have bedded the brakes in gently and avoided any heavy breaking. Any suggestions?

you need to put copperslip on the back of the shims or pads... ... - .- -.

Chamfering the leading edges of the brake pads at 45 degrees with a file often cures brake squeal. Might be worth a try.

Stans copper grease idea is the way to go. Will sort it out. Also put a bit on the join between wheel and disc, makes removing the wheels so much easier. Have had an alloy weld itself on to my old landcruiser. Had to use a lump hammer to get it off. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

What pads did you fit? Had the squealing meself after fitting aftermarket (Mintex) pads on the front. Tried all the usual tricks to shut them up as described in the earlier posts. Even tried some aftermarket stick-on shims that are advertised as curing this problem. Zilch, so ordered the OEM pads from Dan. £60 I think, cured it straight away, and its never returned. Of note, whilst driving, I would have sworn that the squeal was coming from the rears- I got a mate to check, confirmed it was the front end.

After removing the Mintex pads, I could see what looked like metal strands embedded in the material of the pad.

I fitted a set of non OE front pads last year and they sounded like a London bus every time I touched the pedal, tried chamferring the edge and copper grease on the ack to no avail. I ended up buying a new set of pads from Dan and solved the problem

You could try bedding the brakes in "heavily"

0-60 then 60 -5mph without skidding @ 7 times, and don't sit on the brakes once finished. Makes a lovely smell. I'll find the post from SteveMfr about this.

Here it is:

Also, have Mintex fitted all round on my FFRR , no squeaks, squawks, or squeals Smile .

I had the same issue with mine. Sounded like at train stopping at crawling speed. Very embarrassing in queues or at Starbucks drive through!! Embarassed

Agree that most times its just the last fitter was too lazy to copper slip the pads. However in my case they were liberally coated. New pads and discs cured it. Picked them up from euro parts after a tip on here that they had (have) a promo on. Lloyd Barnes

On my car it happens only sometimes, usually in wet conditions with "light" breaking. I suggest the "braking in" method as well to "clean" the surface and "bed" the pads in.

Also, please go gentle on the copper grease, too much and it can end up on the discs. Now while that would stop the squealing, it would also stop the braking itself ;( MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
