Prepare to have some utter bellends have a pop t you for parking in a disabled bay. This winter I was on a callout for my 4x4 response club and I parked in a disabled bay to pick up 3 stranded disabled kids and before I could walk over to them someone was having a go at me for "being a cock and thinking I can park anywhere I want". Obviously my response was to shrug, then wander casually over to the kids I was picking up and help them into my car. The woman never apologised for the abuse even when her friends pointed out I was loading 2 wheelchairs into the car. Sad

It's a weird thing, people assume disability=poor. I've seen Bentleys with blue badges and the looks they get defy belief.

Of course there are those who DO abuse disabled spaces regulary and when challenged, they claim they didn't understand the words on the signs! Funny that, since they must have passed a UK driving test - or perhaps not.... Whistle

As to MPG in an SC, if you think you can't afford it, you almost certainly won't, unless you do very few miles. Having just done a trip to Leeds and back to Glasgow, covering 500 miles on a tank of the "devils spawn", I have no regrets by going from an SC to a TDV8! TBH i think it comes from the logic that if they are disabled they shouldn't be able to get out of a large 4x4 or get into one.

I think for he bentley and so fourth they should only get the badge if they give up their right to claim for ANYTHING else from the state. A lot of them will still be on DLA and get the bits they want in their nice big house and so on without spending money on it just because they are entitled to it currently. means testing is a fairer system and while i can understand it helps a lot of people, the ones that flick the badge in their screen and dump their car on any double yellows they fancy or diagonally across a bluebay get my goat. The lines are there for a reason. Like you I've seen the looks when i have had the bluebadge in the RR when taking my mum anywhere and when they see how bad she is they quickly change their looks as i get her in or out of i into her wheel chair, yet I've seen people near where i work park in the bays and walk without any issue into Waitrose or M&S/John Lewis, some even at a fast paced walk and wonder if that's a normal day or they are on a really good day..

Also for those that can be shown to easily afford it an admin charge of say £50-100 PA for a badge would be fair IMO FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

There are certain blue badges that have an entitlement to park on double yellows due to severe mobility restrictions. However a lot of blue badge people who don't have this extra entitlement take the Censored and do it anyway. It's quite funny seeing them get a ticket by savvy traffic wardens Smile

This would seem like an extreme reaction but in my experience we live in a screwed up world , shame really

Apologies, Stan, for this response which goes against the title of the thread - something you were trying to get back on track . . .

However, I have to respond as I am incensed by some of the comments above about the issue and use of the Blue Badge.

The Blue Badge is issued for the use of people who may or may not have an "obvious" disability. It is isuued on qualification that the applicant fits the criteria. I am confused that there is an implication above that if you have alot of money, you don't need a Blue Badge.

I am one of those people who gets out of their car and walks away into shops. This may be percieved by some that I would not qualify for a Blue Badge. I very much do, though. Have you ever considered that the person may struggle to get back to their car ?

I claim no benefits - I have my previous employment pension - should I pay what is suggested above for a Blue Badge as a result of disability . . .

Dangerous things, these public forums. You never know who's going to read your comments and possibly be offended.

This isn't a rant - more a measured response.

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

My Dad has a disabled parking permit, but he doesn't 'look' disabled (no chair, regular number of limbs). One shouldn't assume and start abuse like the OP was subjected to.

I can also remember a number of times parking my Dad's car in handicapped spaces in front of stores, then jogging inside. Of course, I'm picking him up and helping with the shopping, but not everyone realizes that.

Maybe it's different in other parts of the country but the whole point of the bays is that they are close to shops and amenities for people who can not move around easily over longer distances, ie someone like my mum who can't even walk with the aid of a walker and relies on a wheel chair and someone to help her 24/7

I'm merely stating that I think it's only fair where it's obvious people could afford to cover some small admin charges for a badge they should pay for them. Just my opinion though as I think the system is rife with abusers and could always do with some improvement Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

There is a Facebook page that deals with the other side of this in NZ. Non handicapped people parking in the disabled car parks. Shocking how police, couriers etc. abuse it.

YouveGotMyCarParkWantMyDisabilityToo on Facebook

There are a lot of handicaps that warrant the permits that are not visible and it is just the stupid people that can't see past outer looks. I have some friends that are truly handicapped and you can't see it when they walk past. But things like chronic back issues (as Muttley can probably attest to) are absolutely debilitating (I have had a sore back a few times that made me partly immobile sometimes so I can feel how hard it would be to have that all the time) and getting in and out of cars can be very hard.

Like I said, dumb, stupid and ignorant people look at the outside and can't see past it. I just hope that those of you that do have a badge on their car, don't suffer that sort of crap very often. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

TBH I dont even think its always the people but the fact that the systems are so inflexible they are open to types of abuse.

My dad gets chronic back pain and has sometimes be stuck to his bed for nearly a whole week as he couldn't even take the pain of going to the loo sometimes but could he get a badge... nope as its too infrequent Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Mrs Ambulancekidd has MS which was diagnosed in 2006. Like most people (but not all) with MS they are diagnosed in the prime of their lives. Now the looks that elderly blue badge holders give to someone in their 40s is a sight to behold. Couple that to a FFRR or worse still my winch equipped Discovery overland vehicle that I built & the venom is palpable. Now I'll throw in another double six, my wife is 5ft 11 tall & our choice of tall vehicles is vital as she cannot easily manage into lower cars.

I must admit that we are unaware of limits on double yellow lines & I can find no reference to this in the terms & conditions of use. As a rule we do not park on double yellow lines anyway but I do wonder if the rules differ from England (or indeed the rest of the UK) & Scotland. For instance, the two hour time clock does not apply in Scotland. In my opinion most English councils are out to rip drivers off in the parking stakes. Oh & before I get accused of being an anglophile I'd like to point out that my wife was born & raised in Buckingham-shire.

What this boils down to is that it is extremely unfair to judge a book by its cover or at first glance. As far as I'm aware it is not illegal (but give our governments a chance) to own any particular type or make of car.

I've got a Bentley and when my father is with me and distance is an issue he brings his blue badge with him.

The badge belongs to the person and can be used in any car so it doesn't follow that just because the car is a posh one, it belongs to the the same person as the badge holder.
