South Africa 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Luxor

Hi Colin, and thanks again for your help. The information you provided gave me the guidance (& confidence) to go and pull the switch pack & airbag off again and measure. You are 100% correct, the 4 pins in the back of the R/H switch pack are (reading from the keyed pin on the left) illumination, paddle, paddle, GND. Just for info, if anyone else tries this, the pinout on the switch pack and the pinout on the end of the cable from the paddkes are reversed, ie the keyed pin on the paddle loom is GND, whereas the keyed pin on the switch pack is illumination. ie. 2-12v

Now I am not sure which paddle is which yet, but once I get the feature enabled I will know Smile
So the "-" and "+" lights on the switches illuminate and dim with the rheostat, so I guess I have those connections correct. The paddles just dont have any effect on the gearbox yet.

Thumbs Up you are a gentleman, Colin Thumbs Up

You are most welcome Baben.

It may be that you have to also re program your EMS or Auto box with software that will respond to the paddle inputs as well as enabling it in the CCF. 2003 4.4 HSE

Hiya Daveo and mattstevenson2005
Not quite the same as my work on detailing how to upgrade ones infotainment system Wink

But my work on implementing the fitting of a D4 or 2010 sport steering wheel, with paddle shifting into a Disco 3 is very flexible and does lay in a lot of ground work for adaptation to then suit the same in an L322

Quote:
On my implementation for the Disco 3 with a Disco 4 or 2010 on RRS wheel with paddles, i feed the two paddle switch signals into a specialist encoding chip for security and error rejection and then into a low power RF transmitter. As there is no power supply in the Disco 3 wheel, i actually parasitically rob power from the horn circuit at a level so low, it does not pull in the horn relay.
That took some doing. Shocked

I then have a tiny receiver which picks up the transmissions, decodes them and feeds them into a microcontroller which has outputs that can either emulate command shift actions on the gear stick into the auto box controller or put messages on the Can Bus or other bus to achieve the same result. I did not work that bit out but was sure to cover all bases Whistle

Thus providing paddle shifting capability on any vehicle that it was never fitted on like the Disco 3, RRS and 2002 to 2009 L322
As difficult and as far fetched as all this RF transmitting / receiving and encoding / decoding may sound, that's actually a part i got going and fully tested with outstanding results.

I'm assuming a 2003 L322 can't be upgraded with paddles?

If the D3 can be done then so can your 2003. I did a D3 already, but it was a very rough install, just for the kicks. Colin's will be awesome

Oh yea, i thought my last post up on that project before it got put on hold detailed that Confused

I have the full 05 on infotainment system up and running on the bench, 4x4 info, TV, playing DVD's to the rear headrests via the Rear Screen entertainment system, venture cam (which as you know was a bit troublesome), reversing Cam and everything. I even got to fit it with both earlier and later Bluetooth phone modules and try them out in the office. The only thing i now need to do is transplant it all into my 03 Range Rover while removing all the old BMW stuff.

But sadly, other much higher commitments have unexpectedly popped up which i really do have to prioritize and which means it will now probably still be a few months more before i can now do that and finally complete the project, but i promise you it will definitely happen, as although my day to day business is providing diagnostic equipment, this is only a result of my heart and soul being in deeply understanding the Vehicle Technology in Land Rovers, modifying such and freely sharing details information and help that inspires and allows other to follow my lead Thumbs Up

Baben is quite right.
My implementation on the D3 is not dependent on it having any pre installed paddle shift capability.
In fact implementing paddle shifting is much easier than dealing with all the other steering wheel control capability, as we will be just fooling the Autobox ECU into thinking you moved the gear stick to make it change gear. I really have to finish work on the D3 implementation, after which i WILL turn to the L322 version. 2003 4.4 HSE

OK so I bought the L322 license for my MSV2+, in the hope that editing the CCF would make the paddles that I bought from Nick work. Colin helped me figure out the wiring, I had to make up a little cable to connect the paddles and the switch pack, which was not very technical, and then I put it all together and held my breath.....
