Water in spare wheel well

Noticed an inch of water in spare wheel well, no water appears to be on any electrics though.
Could this be the rear bumper bolts leaking thing ?.
I have removed the lowest rubber grommet to drain the water and might just leave it at that, any thoughts ?.

Lots of thoughts & info on the Forum regarding this, Glynn . . .
First off, get a "Water Shedder" to protect your electrics in the boot.
Secondly, take a good look & feel of the tailgate seal: if there is any "lumpiness" in the seal it needs replacement.
Both parts are readily available as Genuine Parts.
If you search for both terms on the Forum, you'll get much more info -

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Do not leave the rubber grommet out - mice get in! Trust me they eat holes in everything and sheet everywhere!!

One of my old RR's suffered one if the reasons I got rid of it...

A piece of gauze over the hole to stop the mice ?.

Hi Glynn, im going through the same cr4p at the moment:

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic22942.html

I would look at the top left and right hand corners of your seals, there seems to be a common fault where the seal attaches at each side in that underneath the seal there is 2 pieces of metal that come apart and cause the water to seep into the quarter panels in each. Additionally mines also letting water in at the bottom left of the seal.

When I found myself in the boot with a mate spraying water from a hosepipe onto it I thought WTF am i doing in a car that was once 75k looking for water. These appear to be poorly built but we all put up with them.

Search for water ingress and you'll find plenty of avenues to explore or PM me. The one common part that can be replaced where all the issues are is the seal:

anyway its back to an indie tomorrow so I can update under the thread at the top of this.

What is the name of the plastic bits that go in each of the four circular holes in the wheel well? Are they grommets?

Reason I ask is that one of mine is under the hole and I can't grip the edges to pull it back an secure in place. No idea what to search for when trying to find a replacement.

One of mine was also pushed through.
Don't waste your time and effort (as I attempted to . . . ) - put some gaffer tape over the hole -

Like it! Saves me searching for 'rubber to put in hole in rear' on google. Interesting results indeed. Rolling with laughter

I get water but it seems to only happen when the vehicle is parked uphill on the drive so to speak.

Same here, have taken the 'gromet' out in the bottom of the boot well, will make a seal with small rubber 'bung' with a 'drainage hole, i also removed the tailgate seal and filled the 'U' section that fits to the body with silicone, and put back onto the car, if that does not work new tailgate seal will be needed... Previous LR's

I have replaced the tailgate rubber seal now and everything seems good.
Although the outer face of the seal looked "OK", on removing it it was obviously completely knocked where it lips over the steel on the car. It had all splayed out and wasn't forming a good enough seal.

Glad you got it sorted Glynn, no doubt we'll be having some more rain to test the fix! I need to do mine this week, like yours it looks fine from the outside and I'm sure it'll also look like yours (knackered!) on the inside!

Did you have any interesting electrical issues or just water in the spare wheel well?

Matt

Oh yes !
plenty of electrical issues, speaker popping and screeching, sounding like its thundering etc, even with radio switched off.
And greyed out radio, CD DVD icons etc on screen.
All is OK now though.
Someone had been trying to fix it previously though as there old silicone etc under the seal...
