MY11 4.4TDV8 - EGR, Decat and DPF

Has anyone blanked the EGRs, decatted (if that's a word) and / or removed the DPF in the MY11 4.4TDV8 engine?

Thinking about getting this done to prevent future issues (rather than improve performance) and wanted to get advice, warnings or thoughts from anyone who has done them or knows about this?

I know about MOT failure but not an issue here as car will not be in the UK.

Thanks. MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Maybe you should talk to the companies that do the kits for other LR engines and see what they say? Discovery 4 HSE

Hi, I have de- EGR'd my 3.0 derv when I got the car.
(4 years back)
2 months ago I decatted it.

I cant remember if anything improoved when I did the EGR hover the amount of gunk I found in the system when doing it cant be good for it.

As for the de-cat, WOW what a difference.
Imediate power gain and mpg.

I certainly recommend a de-cat.

Ther will be issues come the mot but i hope to overcome that.

Ther is a company on e- thingy that do a de-cat down pipe for about £100 for the 3.0 derv.

I am on my first long trek this morning so will report back later on results but the power gain is awsome.

Now------- my engine has done 164,000 and after reading up at length on the cats I found that the average life of them is some 100,000miles as they become blocked and less efficient.
This could well have been the case on with my engine so do read up on it.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll search through the threads for names but do you know any reputable companies I can enquire with? MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Ive not brimmed it yet but sitting at 71'sh for 190miles the computer read out was 31.9.

Aye thats reet Garry.
What I did.
Obtained a decat pipe and a heavy duty sleeve joint.
£10 again off e thingy
Lower the exhaust from front join and present the new de cat pipe to it.
Mark it and cut. DO NOT THROW AWAY
Fit new decat pipe to manifold, put new sleeve joint in place and slide old ehaust into it.
Tighten bolts, check for leaks and bobs yer uncle.

MOT time just replace original cat until after medical.

SORTED.

If a vehicle left the factory with a DPF and cat then it must have one for an MOT. As has been said it is not checked whether or not there is anything inside...

Exactly my point.

As long as it looks stock they cant do anything as they have no way to test a DPF or an EGR unless they have the correct dealer diagnostics but at that point you just say no thank you and that you dont want them anywhere near the OBD port as they dont and shouldn't go near it for an MOT Smile

And not entirely true,

Older vehicles post 1992 sometimes had CAT's fitted but dont need them to pass the MOT.

Some older diesels post IIRC 2004/6 had DPF fitted but do not legally need them to pass the MOT.

Basically if there was availability that the car at that point in time had no DPF/CAT fitted then yours could be one of those vehicles and there isn't anything you need to worry about Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
