I've got a 2004 Vogue with non-touchscreen satnav.

I bought a new MK4 DVD nav system. While I was waiting for the new system I removed the old MK3 to get it up for sale, waiting for it to power down before removal. I drove around with no nav unit installed and predictably there was no screen in this state.
The new system has arrived, I plugged it in and I still have a blank screen.
A quick read on here and the concensus was that these faults are due to a faulty nav unit, so I plugged my old mk3 back in and the screen is still blank.

I checked all the other connectors on the other boxes in the back there, they seem ok. Is there a fuse I need to check? I find it doubtfull that there is one fuse just for the screen, but not head unit as that is working ie still plays cds and the radio is working. I just can't see anything on the display.

I guess I've deeply offended the electronics on my FFRR by treating it with such disregard, any idea how I go about getting it back onside? I doubt that both units are dead and there is no dampness in the rear compartment.

When I swapped my TV unit for a hybrid one, I got a green type display when the connection wasn't good, so I'd imagine you have a good connection, but no power up.

When I changed nav units, I just did a straight swap without powering on in between, so didn't have this issue.

I wonder if the nav unit has to be seen on the ibus again since it's been off for so long. I believe all the units daisy chain through the nav.

Mmmmmm strange.

Yeah, I think running around with the satnav unplugged may have upset it, might pull the battery leads off for a bit and see if that tricks it back to life.

There is power to the screen as you can see a slight change in colour on the screen when the key is inserted into the ignition..

I've just put BMW blank screen into google, as it's the same system, as you know, and they seem to say disconnect battery to reset it or it's a faulty nav unit, as that processes the video.

As both do it, are you sure you've not disturbed another connector whilst doing the work ?

I tried pulling fuse 49 for 1/2 an hour. I'll try pulling the battery tomorrow.
I cleaned up all the connectors on the TV box, no joy.
Don't think I knocked any of the connectors when I pulled it out.

Should the screen still have worked with the unit unplugged?

I'm cruising out to Duckworths tomorrow, I'll have a chat if I get no joy with the battery reset.

I've not tried with the unit unplugged, but I believe the nav sends the video to the front end, so I'd imagine it won't work without the nav.

Yes, the red light comes on and you can hear the disc spinning away, so that seems ok.
Might also try loading a fresh v32 software disc.

Mine has the standard v32 software loaded, I understand some modded ones with speed cameras and 7 digit postcodes can cause issues.

Doesn't explain why it won't work with your old mk3 unit though.

I'd disconnect the battery for a bit and see if that helps like the BMW chaps have done. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Have to admit, it's got me a bit baffled, I really did expect it would burst back into life when I plugged the original unit back in. There is a link on that site describing how reloading the firmware managed to recover the system.
Not particularly keen on trying the firmware update if I can't monitor it booting up, but if the battery disconnect doesn't work I don't think I'm left with many options.

Get it working with the old mk3 unit if you still have it. That's a known working unit.

Then swap without powering the car up inbetween.

OK, so I tried the software update on the new unit after having unplugged the battery for 20 minutes, no joy.
So I took the blue lead off the TV unit and plugged that in and hey presto, all was good with the world.

The issue appears to be with the blue connector on the back of the Nav unit, I'll fire some contact cleaner into that and see how I go, fingers crossed..

A step in the right direction is always good.
