I went for dropping the oil. (see page 1 of this thread) For anyone thinking about doing it this way, it's pretty easy. There is an elbow on the end of the sucker pipe at the sump. The plastic pipe elbow is a finger squeeze and release from the sump pan. It's stiff but will come off with a little careful levering. Have a container ready!

The only thing tricky is it's hard to get back on. You need quite strong fingers to squeeze the tabs and using your other hand push very hard to get it back over a kind of barbed end. Measure the gap before removal and compare when you put it back.

But as oil changes go, very easy. Changing the air filters was more of a phaff than the oil change!

Greg, red is secondary drain plug and green (for reference) is vacuum drain pipe. as you have said, pipe is hard to get back on and frankly I'm not comfortable using that method on a regular basis, so much easier to vacuum as it is designed for doing it that way.

As for engine oil volume, mine took 9 litres exactly after two top ups / re checks.

Is the suction method what MDs use when servicing FFs? Obviously with the applicant engine type.

Just wondering if this is what can be done vs what should be done...i.e traditional oil change via the sump nut to remove any debris etc.

I have sucked mine out 3 times now and always got out over 9 to 9.25 litres of hot oil.
I always clean out the filter housing, but have never found any sludge of any kind, but I am always a bit taken aback by how black the oil is, given that it has never done over 5k miles.

Having done many oil changes on many cars over the years, I sucked 9 litres of oil out in a few minutes and certainly won't be going back to dropping oil out of the bottom!! 2004 TD6 - Gone

Does it need any modifications to the tubing to fit the vehicle extractor pipe?
I assume there is a plug on the engine extractor pipe that needs removing?

Yes that is the one I have got and 100% recommend.
You just flip off the drain tube cap and the supplied pipe fits on directly without modifications.
Yes, I use it with the built in hand pump.
