Oil removal 4.4L TDV8

Hi
Can anyone recommend a decent vaccum style oile extraction pump to use on my TDV8.
Ideally one that fits the pipe fitted to the engine.

My engine only has one oil drain plug right about the flate plate on the engine subframe. That's bound to end in disaster removing that on my drive.
Cheers
Ian

according to the WM you can disconnect this pipe to drain the oil rather than using a vacuum..

If you do drain the oil this way, please take some photos and add any tips to this post.
I was planning buying a siphon pump, but if this is relatively easy, I will rethink.

I have recently bought a 'Draper Expert' vacuum pump from machine mart. 95.00. Its a 10 litre capacity manual or pneumatic and is so easy to use. Plugged in my compressor and away it went - extracted 9.5 litres i about 2 mins. An oil change on my 4.4TDV8 took 10 mins and was so simple.

I got my oil filter and Shell Helix from Opie. Used the fullfat code for a further 10% off. I used to new oil bottles to pour the waste oil into then disposed of. Easy.

Don't bother crawling around under the FF.

Now i have the pump I intend to change the oil every 3K miles.

Hi Ajac
Did this connect straight onto the pipe fitted to the engine, i don't fancy removing the pipe, knowing my luck the oil will go all over my block paving, or the o ring in the connection will leak.

Thankyou fo your reply

Macca PM sent but essentially the Draper comes with a flexi tube that fits snuggly over the (6mm?) engine outlet.

I don't do that many miles so every 3k will be quite long time wise. Couple this with the fact that Opie do some good prices on oil / filter combos and the process is so simple - just feels good to do it. Thumbs Up 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

A nice treat for your 4.4 !

... and having serviced Marine diesels for quite a few years with no sump drains (normal for marine), I can say that the right oil extractor is worth it's weight. So if there is one that works well stick to that.

Also goes without saying that say oil is 1000% easier pumped out warm than cold through a narrow tube. Cheers, Greg

Hi Ajac,

Do you have the details as to where you connected the Vacuum pump? I have a 2008 L322 TDV8 3.6 and understood this could be done via the dipstick

Regards,

MrChubba.

My job for today, but note these pictures relate to the 4.4tdv8, as per the original thread title.

It really is an easy job.

Emptying the old oil out of the siphon is the hardest part.

Adrian,
Have you any tips??

Pictures are better viewed in reverse order Thumbs Up

Mike, I see your oil level is at "max" and the engine temp. is just warm, when engine reaches full working temperature oil level is going to be two maybe 3 nocis over "max". get the engine to working temp. and check the oil level ( wait minimum of 25~30 sec. for level to give right reading).

Nino, Thumbs Up

Cheers Nino,
I will recheck the level tomorrow.
I put 8.5 litre in.
At 8 litre it was showing half full, but it was cold new oil at that time.

Just lit the bbq to make up for my lost lunch.
Stan,
You would be blown away with the beauty of sunny Saddleworth, 😁😁
