2012 Range Rover Supercharged Supercharged Alaska White

Hi All,
I am attempting the adaptive cruise retrofit on a 2012 Range Rover Supercharged (North American Spec)

Thus far I have been able to source the following parts:
steering wheel switch (horn function doesn’t work)
The short wiring harness
A fat-type radar module from a 2012 LR
Mounting bracket
Gap tool for programming

The first major problem I have run into is the existing wire harness and the short cable adapter appear to be for the “slim-type” radar. The radar part I had sourced is for the “fat-type”

The local dealer has advised I need part number LR043725. When I look that up, it shows fitment for a 2013+ model year.

Can anyone advise what the correct part number for the slim-type radar in a 2012 RR 5.0 SC would be?
I am also looking to know if need to install the standalone ECU in the 5.0 SC

Thanks in advance!

The fat style radar unit is the left radar unit when 2 radar units are fitted, as applicable to the 3.6 TDV8 engine (MY10) and possibly early MY11 5.0 engines. It appears from Microcat 2012 that up to VIN BA334342 the left radar unit was sometimes fitted but the right radar unit LR029157 is applicable to all MY11/MY12 vehicles. Microcat 2012 also shows your dealer-referenced part is applicable to the MY13 L405 and I cannot find any reference to LR029157 superseding to the 2013 number.

If your vin is BA334342 or later, which it should be as your vin should start with CA, then the left(fat) radar unit isn't used and therefore you only need the right radar unit LR029157.

Microcat 2012 shows the rear-mounted ecu starting with vin AA and with no ending vin, superseded during BA vin to LR025949. It doesn't show for which engine and I know that it's not fitted to my 4.4 TDV8 and IIRC someone earlier in this thread didn't need the ecu for his 5.0. The description of the ecu only refers to the 3.6TDV8 so there is a discrepancy as AFAIK the 3.6 wasn't fitted to any MY11 (vin BA..) vehicles but perhaps the description wasn't updated.

Thanks for the reply. To further complicate things; yes it appears the fat-radar unit will fit on the right side of the vehicle but there is absolutely no wiring I can find on that side to accommodate it.

Any suggestions on where to look? And since the short wire harness terminates in a connector for the slim-radar only, is there another part number I am missing?

Thanks!

If you're referring to the right side when standing in front of the vehicle looking at it rather than when sitting in it then for that radar unit a link cable is required to run across to the main radar unit on the other side. I can't spot the link cable part number atm but I know that I've encountered it previously so I'll find it.

If your vin is later than BA334342 then the fat, left side when sitting in the vehicle, radar unit isn't applicable, according to Microcat 2012. Do you know the vin of the supposedly 2012 vehicle from which the fat unit came?

For clarity, my VIN is CA391XXX

I suppose I should be speaking in terms of passenger-side / driver-side (keeping in mind this is a US vehicle)

The existing wiring loom is on the passenger side (left side when facing the vehicle).
But again, the wiring loom is only for the thin-type radar and so is the short extension cable (part number LR023028)

So it sounds like I just need to source the thin-style radar and should be good to go! Now to track one down…dealership cost is north of 1800 USD

OK, we're on the same wavelength!

I incorrectly purchased a used radar unit that was advertised as being for my vehicle but it was out of a Jaguar. It had a Jaguar prefix (CX83 instead of BH32) but Gap provided a firmware update to convert it to L322. The main number on the module is 9G768 and mine's suffix is -AD. See if you can find a used module labelled BH32-9G768-AD or later eg -AE.

Note that the same part is used in the 2010-13 RRS.

Awesome GraemeS. Thank you so much for the clarification.

I will report back as the project comes along.

Any idea if part number FPLA-9G768-AC would work?
It says it is for a 2013+ RRS

Or can any unit with the 9G768 designation be used? I believe these exist in a lot of Ford vehicles and are far more plentiful (and cheaper) then RR parts.

That might be the number on one from a MY14 RRS built and sold in 2013 although I can't confirm the prefix. It wouldn't be recognised by your vehicle until its firmware was replaced with the BH32- version.

I suspect that any with the correct main part number would be OK once the firmware was replaced but perhaps I was lucky that mine was from a Jag.

Would anyone happen to have the part number for the slim-type radar mounting bracket?

I was able to locate a used radar (part BH-329G768-AD) but unfortunately the bracket is not included.
