Due to lack of time I’ve had to give up on this as a diy job and pay someone it’s going in one day this week as soon as I organise transport , after removing the turbo to intercooler pipe I drained about 300mls of oil out of the hose and intercooler so the right hand turbo is definitely knackered , the other one is probably ok but I darent risk it so getting them both replaced.

Got the car back from the garage , he did both turbos replaced with recons with a 2 year warranty for £1740 , the right hand one the oil seals had gone and the left hand one was about to fall apart so on the bright side it didn’t and as I just turned the car off and didn’t attempt to run it he says I probably saved the engine , don’t know how but he did them both without dropping the diff or subframe , on another point the day after I got it back the rear right side dropped over night but the car though it was at extended height so wouldn’t raise up after a look round found the front left height sensor plug had a snapped wire !! New plug from landrover dealers was only £9 chopped the old one off fitted the new one and faults cleared themselves , looking forward to a few months of trouble free motoring just got the rear brakes ( discs and pads and shoes) to do and change all the diff and transfer box oils , sort out the rusty arches and it might get through another 150k miles.

That’s good news (but bad for Ye olde wallet though)

The jobs you mentioned are a walk in the park compared to what you’ve been through 😀

Just out of bi curiosity, did your chap have any suggestions as to why the seals failed? 2007 3.6 TDV8

Do you have any more info or a link to this Facebook site? I replaced both turbos on my 2010 around 6 months ago and it was a nightmare.

I have to do my other car soon and would love to get some tips and shortcuts.

4 hours to remove, not to replace?

Unfortunately I did not find the info.

My turbos are doing fine. I had them overhauled by a Turbo specialist in Cape Town and no problems so far. I have another TDV8 that needs turbo work but I intend to remove the engine to do the job as it also has a broken exhaust manifold bolt which seems to be impossible to replace in situ.

PM me if I can be of any assistance.

Thanks GT40

I'll poke around in the dark until I make progress, will be slow but that's best anyway.

Did you remove the turbos yourself or did the specialist do it all? if they did, do you recall if they dropped the subfame? 2008 L322 TDV8 Vogue

I did the removal myself and did not drop the subframe. I followed the manual to the letter which made it more time consuming. In retrospect I should have tried to find ways around the laborious Land Rover process. There are always shortcuts if you engage brain and look for them.

Ideally you need to have your forearm extended 30cm with a second elbow fitted and your hand reduced in size to that of a 5 year old. Then it will be a piece of cake. Smile

Could you let me know who did the job, I’m not far away and have a similar problem.
