United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Stornoway Grey

Absolutely typical. Yesterday was my birthday, as part of the day, we were supposed to be driving down to the coast in Tank the TD6, but just a few miles into the journey found that the drivers front brake caliper had locked on, managed to limp the car home and took Oscar the V8 out instead. So now I have had to park this beast up as cannot afford to get the brakes repaired immediately, sadly the repair isn't going to be a simple caliper and flexi hose replace job as the connection to the copper pipe has rounded slightly and corroded, so going to have to get the whole pipe replaced although my mobile mechanic wanted to cut it off and add an extension to replace the cut off to then connect to the flexi pipe, but I am not keen on that idea.

I have now got a garage booked to replace the brake pipe completely from the ABS pump to the flexi pipe, so with the caliper and flexi pipe supplied, I am looking at £100-£120 bill. Sadly won't be done until Saturday Sad so I won't out playing in the snow in Tank, although I will be in Oscar.

Photo was taken about an hour after the snow started falling. Just got to work out how to get the car to the garage without using a dual carriageway.

Finally the brakes are being sorted, Managed to limp Tank about 10 miles, and should be collecting him Saturday afternoon.

Saturday got this beast serviced, so now I know it's all good for 6000 miles, the V8 and C-Max are pretty much bankrupting for this month Laughing but as Tank has been good, my other half gave him a much overdue and deserved wash.

I really need to stop getting idea's in my head. I was thinking about getting both my Range Rover's remapped in the future, then next thing I know, a reputable company has an offer on that I can't refuse, so now both the Range Rovers will be remapped as of Wednesday Laughing

The new figures will be 204BHP and 470NM Torque, I have chosen the combined performance and economy package for this Range Rover though as I will get 5-10% better MPG which will help a little. Got a great deal though as both are going in on the same day.

£500 for the pair.

Was thinking of getting my 04 Td6 mapped so will watch and see how you report on how the new map feels.

I was tempted to get mine done but I kept reading horror stories of the GM gearbox not being able to handle the extra torque so I wimped out!

Apparently the extra torque does help the mpg though as it stops the gearbox changing down unnecessarily when going up hills etc.

Got both Range Rover’s washed the day before the remap.

Had this beast formerly known as Tank remapped today, what a phenomenal difference, on just 1 39 mile journey with me playing with acceleration etc... already up to around 28-29mpg. Estimated new BHP is 204, with Eatimated 470NM torque. Not been dyno’d. But so much smoother, a lot quicker and I am extremely pleased. Phantom Tuning in Kent were really great, friendly and very accommodating for my disabilities.

So far, so wicked, the remap has made such a positive impact on the driving experience of Tank, been all over Essex, Kent & Sussex, and the mpg is still up. After my road trip on Sunday which was to collect tyres for my new temporary wheels for the other Range Rover, we made a pit stop at the beach, despite the weather, and ate lunch in the car before heading home. Tank will mostly be resting this coming week as Oscar the V8 will be taking up the slack.

This beast has carried on being great, MPG is much better as is acceleration. Can't recommend Phantum Tuning enough. And now that I have covered over 800 miles with the remap in place, I have booked it in to have the new water pump, thermostat and aux belt fitted as I have a long journey to do later this month.

I wish it was summer now though, as I have a few cosmetic modifications I want to do under the bonnet.

Everything is now crossed hoping that no complications arrise from the coolant system after the work has been done Laughing

Dropped Tank off at my mechanics garage on Thursday with a stuck thermostat and while he was under the bonnet, had the water pump and aux belt changed. Wow what a difference it has made to how it drives. Wish I had got it sorted sooner.

Turns out there is nothing wrong with my viscous fan too. Now to sort the annoying humming that comes through the windscreen which I have been told is perished rubber on the scuttle panel.
