Adam - have you replaced the 4 donut hoses for silicone ones? Flimsy originals often split and let air in. Common issue.
As recommended above, get a HIGH pressure test done by a professional outfit. Intake manifolds can split and only a high pressure test is likely to find it. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I think a new DPF is £2,000 ish.

However in the history of this website, I think no-one has ever had one replaced or known anyone to have one replaced with a new one. The DPF itself doesn't go wrong, it's always an ancillary or other part of the system. The DPF itself is a ceramic gauze filter, which works by getting super hot when extra fuel is dumped into it. No moving parts.


I hope that's some help - what problems are you having?

Guys I have experienced 2 full dpf red warnings, car went into restricted performance. Turned out to be a faulty erg temperature sensor fault, luckily this sensor is easy to get to. Drove peachy until yesterday due to local short trips the dreaded Red DPF FULL RED returned. Went to my local garage..error code P2463...soot accumulation. Went for a blast to try and regen but nothing..40 mile round trip at high revs using paddle shift. I then bought Wyns DPF cleaner for a tenner..went for a blast again and it's now cleared..car drives beautifully...give it a go before paying someone, also advised to at least once monthly go for a drive a constant high speed for 20mins or so...irritating so to speak, I'm going to avoid diesels going forward..

How did you manage to clear to red DPF Full message as the car goes into restricted performance when this appears? Would I be right in assuming you have changed the EGR temperature sensor too? 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Hiya yes it was a faulty erg temperature sensor, there are 2, mine failed on the right when looking at the engine...yesterday it did go into restricted performance, so a challenging drive at high revs, car would not exceed 50mph...use a good dpf cleaner as I did..it worked for me..I'll be using a cleaner probably every couple of months...hope this helps...local mechanic with a good reader tool will able to ascertain any error codes..mine also had the engine management light, the light has to be removed prior to attempt a regen Whistle

Hi Aman, thanks for this.
So to clarify your garage cleared the fault codes then you took it for a blast and all good?

These particular model (4.4 TDV8) definitely need a regular drive on open road, probably more than any other diesel engined car. Otherwise they will go to Red DPF Full a bit fast.

Yes fault code will remain until the dpf regent, but before taking it for a good run engine management light needs to be removed, otherwise the ecu will not enable regen...

Hi, I have a 2011 4.4tdv8 and the new Hawkeye can reset the DPF without having to go to a dealer, done mine a few times and that has paid for the unit a few time over. short runs are the killer though, you need to do at least two miles from cold before stopping, otherwise you are asking for problems.

I would be very interested if you can reset DPF alarms, particularly if you can check if you have the PO 40D EGR sensor alarm.
The independent garage I have always used is adamant that it is not possible to initiate a forced regen when the sensor is faulty and the fault code PO 40D OO EGR is showing., but I would like to hear of someone having the alarm but able to clear RED DPF warnings.

many thanks for a great and very useful post without which I would never have gone ahead . just to say you can fix this at home as a competent diyer but £250 seems very good value to have it done by a pro .. this is what I did with mine with dpf full red warning .bought icarsoft 2 x 60mm exhaust sleeves cheap exhaust cutter brick cleaner from B&Q total spend £191 with icarsoft to keep when done. cut the after dpf exhaust pipes unbolt the dpf and downpipe 2 rubber pipes for the pressure sensor and 3 sensors, once off bridge the open exhaust pipes, and pressure sensor pipes (small tube for this )I used an old bike inner tube and 2 jubilee clips stand the dpf up against the garage door mix 6 dishwasher tabs in to a bucket of hot water and pour in to the dpf leave to soak for 3 hours .remove inner tube and flush with hose or jet wash refit tube and fill with a mix of 25% brick cleaner and water fill dpf .I left this overnight then gave a good flush with a jet wash in the morning lots of red ash colour water came out keep flushing until clear leave to dry and refit to car . use the Icarsoft and set as new dpf this will clear codes reset ash levels. job done car is now fine. if you can borrow the scanner the job can be done for £60ish
