Yes I have told Pat about it in an email, and at the same time I suggested that the “ quit “ word could do with being in a slightly bigger font because it isn’t very easy to read , but your point about iPad orientation is worth me trying. because I have only ever used it in portrait .

My “Quit” disappeared and I had to exit the app completely at the end. I’ve noticed that a few times that the exit method for certain functions has disappeared Christian.

Recently fixed an issue with damaged short hoses and got a DPF full message after 30 miles.

Got the beta iid firmware and did a force regen from 31.4g down to .4g however went up the motorway to see how quickly it would fill again and got 17g in just 20 mins. Even if the car still had an air leak it wouldn’t fill that fast Sad

I’m thinking that because of the air leak issue prompting lots of regens and the age/mileage it’s the ash retention that’s causing the problem so I need a clean and reset.

Don’t forget to check the hose on the throttle body is well sealed.

If it's ash then a regen or forced regen would never clear it in the first place. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Almost certainly another leak. Possible cracked inlet manifold.
Clean the MAF and MAP sensors in case one is clogged and its massively over-fuelling (unlikely but an easy one to eliminate).
Then go for a high pressure smoke test.

Because the DPF presents the problem, it is easy to think it's a DPF issue, but the reality is that's rare. Most DPF cleaning doesn't do much and is generally undertaken by people who drive short distances/mis-purpose the vehicle. For example Land Rover DPF issues increased dramatically over Lockdown as people drove shorter distances.

Only one person on this forum has, ever, replaced the DPF and Cat, because that car had been driven through a deep salt water ford then parked for ages.

I’m pretty sure the throttle body intake isn’t supposed to look like this??

Give it a good clean, inside and out, then refit, but bend the spring wire circlip to give a bit more tension on the throttle body.

How’s the green lipped seal inside? I bought a whole new unit and it was still a little loose on fitting. Do the spring trick as BB said 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

The seal looks ok but after removing, cleaning and bending the clip so the ends overlap (pre fitting) the soot levels are still climbing at a stupid rate. It seemed to be ok until about 5 mins in when I got on the motorway then it started climbing at a rate of about 1g a mile.

On a plus side it is regenerating itself and I haven’t seen the generic RP mode but very likely will see DPF full soon.

Looks like the next step is to change this part but as people have mentioned it’s looking like an air leak is causing my problems I just need to nail it down and resolve.

1g per mile is definitely a leak.

It might be one you cant see. High pressure smoke test is recommended, until then you are shooting in the dark, maybe you'll get lucky though

Replaced the hose with a new one today definitely noticing a difference.

On the motorway at a steady cruise I’m seeing around 1-2 miles per 0.1g on a dual carriageway with lots of roundabouts it peaks and troughs with about an average of 1 mile to .1g but under acceleration this can jump a .2g-.3g then steadies out which is to be expected.

It did do a regen but only got to about 6g before I hit traffic, it jumped fast back up to 10 but then went back to the behaviour above.

The rate at which the soot level dropped was pretty fast compared to before!!

I’m not sure if this is still too quick as I’m obsessing a little but it a LOT slower than before and I am quite heavy on the right foot and there’s tons of roundabouts in 50 mph zones so lots of slowing right down and speeding up quickly which will cause more soot than steady speeds.

Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I have watched the soot gain every mile live for 10,000 miles on all kinds of driving. I have been a bit obsessed with it. There are usual patterns like a quick soot gain after a burn.

The best advice was from Dr Rob which is not to worry too much unless you are not getting a Yellow warning light. One of the reasons LR do not give drivers too much info is that the system is imperfect and there are inconsistencies, for example the frequency of regens increases with soot levels, i.e. get to 20grams and it will try and regen more and more.
The first regen threshold is set at 19.7 grams. Then the regen frequency increases at a non-linear rate.
However some cars will regen at any speed and with high frequency. I have seen this happen when a DPF was knackered - it just kept regenning because it was filling up too quickly as the working ceramic surface area was diminuished.

These inconsistencies carried through to the 2017 Evoque. For the most part, if you are doing a bit of distance driving you will never get a Yellow. Also your personal DPF Regen Anxiety will peak after you've had a leak. Another thing to watch out for is remapping which can de-stabilise the DPF balance.

On one L322 regens would always take exactly 8 miles. This is a reasonable benchmark. DPFs on L322s are, unfortunately, a completely inexact theory... however, and this is key, there were 293,494 L322s built (let's guess, say, 50,000 are 4.4 TDV8) and only a tiny handful of owners have ended up here... so it really is a very rare issue.

I don't think DPF cleaning is particularly great. It might help a bit on a car which has been mis-purposed - i.e. used for short trips but it comes a long way after induction system integrity and how the car is used.

If you would like my graphs and data, PM me your email address and I'll send it over. cheers.

I feel sorry for you guys having regen problems. I have had my car for 2 years and I know I have only done about 9000 miles in that time but it has done a regen just once. Could it be the oil you are using? I have only used the recommended Shell Helix Ultra AF-L.
I only do local driving and tow my caravan every month or so. The time it did do a regen was while I was towing the van.
