O GOD YEAH IT WILL...

(sorry didnt mean to shout)

currently we are running round in my D2 TD5, i love driving the theing but its not as comfy as the Range.

also the range is easier to drive and as i said the wife is about to pop out a little human beign so the auto would be alot easier to drive as well..

So had a care package turn up the other day and a single one today,

so i got the tappetts in the one head......

check all the clearances and im happy, probably on monday i will get the manidolf back on and the couple of other little bits ( i hope i remember where they went??? )

then chuck it back into the engine back and bolt it down to the block....

on a plus note 3x of the old tappetts worked on the other head so thats £21 saved...

to any of you still following this,

the other head is ready to go into the vehicle, then have to talk down all the bolts, been waiting for both heads so that i dont have to keep changing the settings on the torque wrench.

will get a photo once they both in.

But my question is to any that have changed the timing chains on these, is there a certain make to avoid?

so the re-build continues

10 months in and i can see the end in sight.

the heads are back on and timed (i hope its correct)

front chain case is back on... the crank pulley is on im not in the process of tidying all the little bits up.

it is a big job....... but at the same time its not really.

the biggest factor has been the physical time required (you def dont need the 10 months its taken me)

if you had a free weekend and all the parts its quite easy. i complicated by removing an old gas system at teh same time.

also i decided to check the valve clearences which were way out (most probably from factory as theree wasnt any real wear)

the most awkward part so though has been the AC pump...... you have to loosen the pump so that it sits against the inner wheel arch, then take the bracket off with teh pump still sort of attached..

but i will keep this updated as i go along and possibly more pics as well

Todays top tip

(well yesterday afternoon)

when working in the open witht he bonnett up and the ability to goto into the access mode with the bonnett make sure its not windy!!!!!

the bonnett latches B****Y Hurt when stabbing you in the back....

so this lunch time the bonnet is back to secured (will loosen once more for battery re-install later)

and then i have got the rest of the water pump/belt assy re-attached

You can do the battery without access mode not too hard and I put a monster in Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:
2002 4.4 V8 FF

if it was my head it wouldnt of hurt as much for me lol......

and yeah i have had the battery in and out in normal mode..

i mostly had it in access mode for head removal and such

So hello all

We are at this point




Now I see need a couple of parts... they are a water pipe and thermostat housing.

But the problem I have is it will not run on it’s own I have had a continuous run on carb spray

I have a lower grade oil in it currently due to wanting to do a clean out so I need to change oil and filter again

If I plug the old gas ecu in then I can get a Max 5 second run then it shuts down again. Unless once again I use carb spray.

The good news is that I got the mechanical right it’s now the dam pixies!!!

If any one has an idea please say.

Got a friend who is going to bring one reader and some point soon
