United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Buckingham Blue

Both the Bentley and the Rolls and Censored ugly!
With the sort of money I'd buy a small fleet = full fat, MX5, Willys Jeep (WW2 era), 1950 80" LR, Harley Sportster etc.
Bow down Thumbs Up 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
New Defender D300 90 on order so "Rory" will be going to a new home....!
1974 Series 3 Lightweight = "Millie"

I’ve never really looked at the Bentley Bentayga and didn’t realise they have produced a diesel version. The reviews are very good and the engine seems to better suited to the Bentley than the petrol versions.

Surprisingly it will deliver 30+ Mpg and under 5s to 60 mph. Obviously not at the same time Smile

There are several 1-2 year old approved used examples around the £100k mark. I’ll be taking a drive in one before committing to another FFRR:

My mate in the trade, says the resale of them is not great and at one point this year Glasgow Bentley had about 8 and couldnt give them away.

I think the next iteration with the newer dash might be much nicer and less like a posh VW inside. all smug in my new plug!

Not a direct comparison, I know, but a colleague of mine exchanged a Disco Sport for a Q5 that still had 9 months of contract hire left. He’s never adapted to the typically Audi hard ride and wouldn’t choose another.

Understood Thumbs Up

It’s a pity that you don’t have easy access to a half decent dealer - somewhere that I’ve been lucky.

We tried to buy cars from no less than 5 dealerships up here

Perth, Cupar, Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow

We were looking at an Evoque at Cupar, while they were still a main agent. Explained it was for the wife, and needed some figures
Told to book a test drive to make sure it was definitely the car we wanted. I said, I work on them daily, and the wife has driven plenty of them, she wants an Evoque .

Was told in no uncertain terms that they would not give us a finance quote without booking a test drive another day... Rolling Eyes

Fast forward a bit, and at the RHS, Pentland had a deal on the Disco Sport. We arranged a 48hr test drive with Perth. Car was picked up, and within 2 miles, we both decided we didn't like it, but kept it for the weekend. Couldn't wait to drop it back off...

While we done so, there was another Evoque parked outside, which we had a look round, and decided we would like one of them again. Spoke to the salesman, explained our issues with the DS, and asked of we could do the same with an Evoque.
Salesman said he would arrange something, and let us know. We never got a phone call back...

Edinburgh... We spent 45 minutes wandering outside and inside, and not 1 person came over to see us, despite asking at the front desk of anyone was free, and a load of people sitting behind desks...

Same story at Dundee. At the launch of the new Evoque, the only person who came to speak to us, was the JLR rep. The salesmen were all over the older couples, but even when they were not busy, still no one seemed interested

Glasgow (not sure which branch Embarassed ) we were dealing by email over a Disco Sport. The older 2.2 HSE Lux, phoned up, paid our deposit to secure the car. 3 hrs later, we get a phone call to say the car had been sold

So in the end, we went and bought a car from an independent dealer, who held the car for us for 7 days, and didn't sell to anyone else, despite us not even putting a deposit down for those 7 days Thumbs Up

Perhaps you(se) could try Lloyd LR in Kelso, I've been a customer there (including Croall Bryson before the LLR takeover) since 2000 and have been treated well. Of course it's a bit of a journey. If CUE 99T would consider a second hand car, they seem to have (in Carlisle branch) a low mileage 2017 SVA Dynamic, incidentally Pentland Edinburgh are advertising another one.

Pentland have, as Mikey says, cornered much of the east central Scotland market. To be fair to them I was treated courteously in Perth, and given a test drive of a 5.0SC nae bother, even though I had turned up on a motorcycle. It wasn't the right spec, so I didn't buy it. Likewise in Elgin i called in with my 2012 WM with a starter motor problem and they checked it and refused any payment, again I was treated very well despite just turning up unannounced. But it does reduce choice a bit with so many locations under the same control, maybe convenient for LR, but potentially less so for customers. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I can second Lloyd Kelso. Considering having mine serviced there when I go home to see family rather than my useless London dealer.

That is totally mental.

I reckon the biggest problem for me is the turnover of salesmen in a certain dealership.

I've only come across one guy in 20yrs who is still in the same dealership (LR Ayr incidentally)!! lol

I was lucky for years that my friend was an LR salesman and then pretty senior across a dealership who always cut me a good deal.

Now I feel (and even mentioned by the guy in Ayr) that the customers are just enquiries across the UK from the internet and not locals. So you are just treated in a linear fashion like a process....not a human being!

I've had a big problem with this for a bit, in the fact that when I was pretty skint (and I mean proper skint after I lost my home and business and marriage), I couldn't afford a Porsche and hadn't bought one for a while yet when I kinda got back on my feet and had a few quid to spend, I wanted a GT3 Touring I was told pretty much a 5yr wait and unless I bough about 4 cars from Porsche Glasgow or any other specific dealer in a line I was very unlikely to even get a sniff of one. I think that pretty much hacked me off considering I'd bought them from main dealers for years!! How they forget who kept them alive in the bad times!!!! all smug in my new plug!

yeah the 6k miles one at Pentland Dundee is of interest, but just not sure when I'll have a car back!! lol

I know Mike at Pentland Dundee as he sold me my car in Edinburgh 3 yrs ago and I have kept in touch.

I'll have a look at the Kelso one, like you mentioned to me before CS. all smug in my new plug!

What a sorry tale this thread reads. Now if we all ran our own one, would we all become jaded & complacent? Has to be room for a stand out dealer now though right? Cause it’s Christmas, what would you call it . Stan I know it’s OT, just a bit of fun..

You should look at Pistonheads loads of threads moaning about dealers of all manufacturers - BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, McLaren all get a daily lasting.

As has been touched on above these days I think there are so many time wasters out there that sales staff don’t give every enquiry their full effort.

I’ve been mostly lucky up here but have had a few notable exceptions many years ago was looking at getting my first “premium” car was completely ignored in Land Rover in Inverness, Audi in Dundee looked me up and down and actually questioned if I could afford an A6, took great pleasure in going back in the following week with my 6month old BMW 530d Sport!

I’ve got to say Pentland in Cupar were brilliant when I bought my L322 3 years ago, I’ve never had a problem with Land Rover in Aberdeen and this month the parts department in Pentland Elgin have been brilliant and sourced replacement parts for a Land Rover accessory that aren’t on the system.

I think the biggest issue is until manufacturers start taking more action against poorly performing dealerships by taking away their franchise or financially penalising them then the dealers of all manufacturers are not going to improve.
