How many years ago did FM radio shut down - oh it hasn't. I would think that was simpler to do but it still failed. Geoff

I went electric back in February, I had the concerns that are talked about - Range Anxiety, Charging Points, Extended Journey time etc. All of them were complete non events. I do some long(ish) journeys in my i3 Gainsborough to Bournemouth, Gainsborough to Swansea etc, none of them causes me any anxiety at all. I have to stop for about 30 minutes after 100 miles and that adds another 100 miles back onto the range. Performance is amazing cost per mile blows me away. I think it will happen as planned and it will be a good thing. BMW i3 Electric Car

I'm a dinosaur and like using crushed dinosaurs to fuel engines on, I like the smell and the sound, you'll not convince me for a while yet....

Haven’t watched the vid yet as trying to get little one down.
This only talks about the sale of new cars. Anyone got info on an actual ban of driving petrol/diesel etc.
Assume from now on it will just be many more tax hikes for petrol/diesel cars to pay for the electric infra. 07 4.2 Supercharged

dingg1 don't get me wrong, nothing nicer than the sound of a laboured V8 or indeed a steam train but for daily use electricity is very, very impressive. BMW i3 Electric Car

A Trap

Just watched the video, a couple of thoughts.

A, it was very pro ev
B, simplified and glossed over the issues.

Charging on street, like terraced housing etc, I.e anywhere where there is no off street parking is basically a no-go.
Most work places don’t have enough parking for all their staff and customers let alone places to charge
One person in a street charging may not be an issue for the infrastructure, but 30 cars and multiples at each address will certainly exceed capacity of transformers and cabling by a big margin

There needs to be a mix of fuels and tech, hybrids for those doing big mileages and sketchy charging options, electric only for those privileged to have offstreet and work charging options and travel relatively short distances and finally petrol for everyone else.

I can’t see this position changing much in the next 30 years even with newer tech and longer range, the UK housing stock is too old and hampers this ev totality dream well into the future until on-street charging can be sorted... where most of the population park.

EV doesnt have to be charged at home. It's possible to charge at petrol stations, supermarkets etc so the fact you dont have off street parking isnt a real deal breaker. There is talk about lamposts being used and whilst there isnt one lampost for every car length it would go some way to helping. Many people can also charge at their place of work which again will improve over time, the office where I rented space had free EV charging points, Meadowhall shopping centre at Sheffield recently installed 70 free charging points. It just needs further thought and investment but I do feel putting a date on it will help focus the relevant bodies. BMW i3 Electric Car

I cycle regularly and despite my previous flippant comment I ride down terraced streets in Wigan (or Chorley where I live) parking, even outside your own house, is impossible, there is the odd disabled bay which I imagine is respected. Also when I am cycling in Manchester there are tower blocks, as elsewhere, I fail to see how they will be accommodated, even when people are day dreaming about induction loops in the road surface or even a charging point on every lamppost. 2030 is only 10 years off that's not a lot of time to sort all these problems. From my experience charging is not "free" now and will be less so in the future, Governments have to raise cash - often from motorists - so when we all have Electric Vehicles £0 VED will be a thing of the past. Geoff
