@colalowe - on your graph, the last height sensor looks to be reacting slowly / imprecisely, I'd check for mechanical stiffness on whichever it is (I'm guessing rear). Also bear in mind that the air suspension will 'settle' to height as it requires the sidewalls of the tyres to be compliant and eventually push out the tyre tread, so yes, the lines 'should' be flat - and if you were on an alignment ramp, they would be, but the real world has friction which needs to be overcome by the mass of the vehicle, and that takes (a small amount of) time.

Well I was hoping to report something but the car is now on the naughty step 🤣. Got the new LR height sensor from Duckworths, put the front up my ramps and managed to get the old one off, but I can’t undo the 2 little torx bolts that hold it to the bracket I need for the new one. I thought the new one might come with new bolts etc…..

Anyway, sprayed WD40 on it and will see if I’m more patient tomorrow 🤣. Don’t want to round the torx off, think they are T20…. Or we’re at some point…

Been told the accelerometer is accessed through the front wing side vent… can’t get that off either….

The side vent has a bolt underneath, the trim below that pulls away enough to get a 10mm ratchet spanner in.
put some masking tape along the door edge to protect it when you pull the vent outwards and to the rear.

Thanks, I saw that on a video I watched. The lower trim doesn’t ease out in the middle, the end only moves a bit. Think I might have to look at how the mudflap fits on, as that might be fouling and stopping it coming out more. Will sort height sensor first.

The two sensors are exactly the same for the EAS & ADM, the reason for two is that the extra processing required to broadcast on CAN was too much of an overhead at the time, it was considered better to input the signals directly rather than have potential delays or missing messages on CAN. Obviously things have moved on and L405 works happily with network data.
Height sensor signals are direct connection to the suspenson and damper modules on all LR vehicles at least up to the L663 Defender. The difference with the L405 and later vehicles is that both modules are located in the same container and designed to share the signals where both modules exist.

The side vents on later vehicles has an extra screw compared with earlier vehicles, as I discovered when fitting genuine mudflaps that came with instructions for earlier vehicles. IIRC the screw is accessed from the front but it was 5 years ago that I fitted the mudflaps.

Good to know - thanks. I'm sure I've seen height sensor data broadcast on L405 HS-CAN - I can't think what use it would be other than for the 4x4 info screen.

Current and target heights are possibly requestable via the HS canbus but perhaps periodically broadcast as well as or instead of being requested.

So…. New front left Genuine LR height sensor fitted. Had to cut the old one off the bracket. You can still feel bumps, but it’s more compliant and the interior trim no longer rattles and creaks. MOT man at 12 to look at the knock.

Much more comfortable to travel in, less jarring. Doesn’t crash over bumps like it used to. Still firm…. Need to check tyre pressures as I put them up a bit when we loaded up a couple of weeks back.

Doesn’t roll much on corners still. It’s over a year since it hardened up, so maybe I’m not remembering exactly how it was.

Still got the accelerometer issue to look at.

Pretty happy. Thanks to Haylands and Phoenix for getting this far with me.

Need to make sure the inputs are good…before you blame the outputs…🤣

Good news - once you've got the accelerometer & mechanical bits sorted, I'll calibrate the ride height for you, should be a lot better then.

Many thanks mate. Seems the knock is the lower front ball joint, ironically, where the new ride height sensor fastens 🤣.

Not a difficult job then, are you having it done or doing it yourself?
BTW, how is the 'reverse into garage' manoeuvre now the height sensor is free to move properly?

It’s still dropping a bit on full lock left, but I just select Normal again. I’m gonna let my MOT man change it when it comes and get MOT at the same time, save doing that at Christmas. I bought a Delphi lower arm. Used them before without issue.

Think it’s still a bit low on that front corner, unsurprising, but not done a scientific check….

Just 'remind' him that the bolt that holds it into the subframe needs to be tightened and torqued with the weight on the wheels and the suspension at normal height, otherwise it pre-loads the bush and will rip it to shreds quite quickly.
