United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

I was the same when I bought mine in January. I got a facelift SC for ยฃ2.5k that was misfiring and it turned out to need a coil.

I spent just over a grand on it giving it a major service and going over everything. Annoyingly, a substantial chunk of the grand was on the gearbox doing the solenoids which lasted 2.5k before eating itself. It is what it is though, even after replacing the box I'm still ahead Smile

Well done that man, I did the same with my L322 the guy was selling as spares repairs with a report from his mechanic stating it needed head gaskets or a new engine. It didn't and I traced the fault to a leaky lpg water hose Very Happy

Have now just had the guides, chains and head gaskets done as had early guide failure warning.

Thumbs Up

Well it wasn't meant too be. Took the range for a drive and after about 20 mins idle time and about 15 mins driving time, the temp started creeping up although there's still no movement from the fan so think first things first is to do the thermostat and change the clutch fan and see what the score with that is. Think I'll order a power probe first though so I can at least test the fan.

Still on another note a few minor changes

New tinted lights. Ordered these for my other range however they never arrived after 3 weeks so emailed the company and two days later. Two sets of lights turn up. For the more observant folks, obligatory stickers added to the rear windows

Here's a picture of my true love though

Well the build it yourself thermostat turned up today however after a 14 hour shift at work I'll do it another evening. I've got the coolant ready so I'll get the stat changed and then refill it with water and see if the fan comes on this time. If it does then I'll get it bled up.

Still prize idiot of the day award goes too me. Bought myself an iid tool for the daily and guess which code I managed too give gap.... yep the one that's off road atm ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

So early finish from work today so decided to do some investigation on the range for why it's over heating. I have a feeling this might be the likely culprit

A missing thermostat so just replaced that and now just running it up to temp too see if the fan starts kicking in. Spoke to a friend and he thinks the previous owner might have removed the thermostat to keep it cool while it's running

Just uploaded this video to the tube. It would appear that even the viscous fan is somewhat faulty. Engine running and the fan ain't even turning so I suspect that's a new fan jobbie.

Any one able to give me a heads up on how too change one

Cheers

Someone's took out the thermostat because the viscous fan clutch has failed hopefully, you should be able to find a YouTube clip on the job, shroud will have to come off , might need special tool to access the holding nut opposite thread so tighten to loosen iyswim, maybe change out the water pump whilst your in there, idler pulley and belt as well Thumbs Up

That's pretty much my thinking given the fact I don't know when it was last changed. Belt needs changing as its pretty squeaky on start up so think new pump, new fan, new belt is in order

Dave

Cheers mate. Quite rare these things in this country but stupidly powerful. Even with me on it it leaves most super bikes standing and I weigh 24st

I agree with Mr Glover. Thermostat stuck open (or none at all) should result in 1/3rd temperature showing on gauge, not over heating?

Confused

I agree mate but considering the stat was missing I'm just going to overhaul the front end of it so then I know its done. Ordered new fan, water pump belts and radiator last night.

Also bought some chrome side bars for it as well. Once this is all done next job will be over too Mr hinds at Dartford for some gearbox maintenance and a detailed inspection.

Think I better go stick myself up for sale on the street corner at this rate ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

I canโ€™t remember if youโ€™ve already done this but have you also checked that the electric auxiliary pump for the charge cooler (to the right of the radiator behind the NSF headlight) is wired the correct way and is also working? Thereโ€™s a LR bulletin somewhere on the forum as some were reverse wired at the factory?

Hope this helps and good luck Thumbs Up

Well finally got home early one night so decided to make a start on the range. Still waiting for the fan to turn up. Bearmach decided they should send it from their warehouse to maltings warehouse instead of me so that's due today now๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„. Took everything I can apart and low and behold the fan shroud is destroyed. It would appear the previous keeper when removing the stat has broken the shroud but not replacing it properly as the fan was inside the shroud and left a nice little reminder of it for me. Time too order a new fan shroud. Still least I can take it all apart and get the belts changed as they are squealing away like my ex does when she don't get money ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

On the other hand decided I'll treat myself too some of this. Pretty decent drink to finish the day on
