New to me UK RR Vogue SE (2012) - Some questions too :)

Hullo there.

After much deliberation I am now the proud owner of a 2011 (MY2012) FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8 engine with 62k on the clock, in Orkney grey with the Autobiography styling pack.

I think I bought literally the best one available privately in the UK. 4 Owners which was more than I originally set my sights on but Full LRSH, always been under LR warranty and still has a few months left on that.

Previously I owned an 05 RRS many moons ago and longed to be in RR ownership ever since getting rid (despite watching my father-in-law buy a new one every 3 years only for it to spend way too much time at the dealer).

Anyhow, I love the beast but I have a few questions that im hoping peeps here can answer.

1) Door puddle lights

So these are great but I am really not a fan of the projected effect. The in-laws had them but those projected the range rover logo, mine project water droplets. Is it possible to swap out the lens for one that doesn't project anything, just light?

2) Turbo Drain mod
I've yet to check if this has been done but I assume as a TSB it would be covered under warranty? I have a print of warranty claims but they detail costs rather than specific work.

3) Reverse lights
In general she is in really good condition but there's some algae or something dirty that's noticeable in the bottom of the reverse lights. I'd really like to clean those up and wondered if anyone had any pointers for this? I wondered about removing them and dropping them in a bucket of vanish?

Any pointers greatly appreciated

Welcome.

The puddle lights shouldn’t project anything, just light, so I guess someone has “upgraded” them.... just put the original bulbs back in.

The turbo drain mod doesn’t need doing to them all. Some never need it. I make sure I spin up the second turbo each journey if I can... once it’s all warmed up of course. Stops the oil build up. You can drive around and do entire journeys without going over 2000 rpm, so it needs a clear out occasionally.

If it’s not smoking, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Worth a try with the reversing lights.

Oh right, I figured it would be the lense doing the projections not the bulb itself, will check. Thumbs Up

At what RPM does that second turbo kick in?

Deffo lenses I would say. My 2nd turbo comes in at about 2500-2600 rpm. Any pictures of your car we can drool over?

Yes, sorry, I just meant put it back to standard re the puddle lights. I’ve never changed mine, so as above, could well be the plastic lens.

As per KevinP, about 2500rpm.... but you need a bit of clear road in front of you 🤣.

Perfect, I'll give it some of that once it's warm Smile

As for pics, I haven't really properly detailed it yet but I have this one...

And sadly, now this one too....

That last one popped up the day after I got it but then no problems for a few days, reared its head again today, followed shortly by the 30MPH Max alert and then "Forward assist disabled" which I assume is related to the car having no feedback from suspension.

It is worth firstly making sure the correct software is installed, I had similar issue and found the compressor had been changed from a Hitachi to AMK by main dealer and not updated. No issues since doing. You will need IID tool.

If you have still some Warrenty left I would suggest taking back to Main Dealer for them to resolve. At least they can reflash the ecu’s for both Suspension and by the looks of it the Adaptive Cruise which may be linked to Forward Alert, does your cruise control work or does it when you try come up with Radar Sensor Blocked.

I’m not sure if it stops the front radar if it can’t guarantee the car is level due to a suspension fault.

Will the suspension adjust up and down, or is it just stuck where it is?

It first happened parked on the drive when I hit the access mode button (engine not running) car dropped down but got the bong and amber alert. Turned off ignition, then started the car, no alert and I was able to get back into normal height no problem.

The next day it happened I'd parked, entered access mode no problem, got back in the car and it raised no problem, then about 5 minutes later, whilst driving into town I got the ping and the amber warning, followed a free minutes later by the 30MPH ping and then it disabled both the adaptive cruise and the forward assist. Suspension seemed to be moving up and down without issue but cant be 100% sure how quickly it should happen (one thing I note is that is seems to lift the rear, then the front... I assume that is normal). Then for the next few days, no problems with any of those systems.

Today it happened and I was locked out of making any height changes (just get a bong from the dash when pressing the height adjust buttons) until I turned the engine off and back on. Then it felt like it was struggling to lift. It almost seemed as though the front rose a little, then dipped a little, then came back up.

On the driveway the vehicle raising text was on the screen for a long time and I didn't feel it was moving much. Also seems like the arse end is sitting lower (level across the rear axle but lower than the front).

I guess there could be many many reasons for this and without diagnostics its impossible to know what the cause is. Battery voltage is a little low (12.3v), not checked that with the engine running but I think the ideal voltage is 12.4v and no lower than 12v without the engine running.

I guess im not as worried as I would be if I didn't have that warranty, still a hassle I could do without with a baby due to arrive in the next few days Confused

If your LR Warranty is still active (not expired) then get it in while it's still covered. Please note that most garages are booking weeks down the line due to being busy at the moment so get yourself in the diary ASAP 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE
