Restricted Performance Fault TDV8 4.4 - 1750 rpm on Motorway

Had my first Restricted Performance issue today, followed by a second a little later on in the same journey. Both times I was sitting at around 1750 rpm on the motorway with cruise control switched on.

The first time I pulled off to the side of the road and checked the error codes with IID Tool. There were no codes showing and the Restricted Performance red triangle on the dash disappeared when I cleared the codes and continued on with the journey.

About half an hour later I had the issue again and managed to reset the codes whilst the car was slowing rapidly and it picked up again and continued as normal.

I can't see any obvious hose splits, etc. but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Nor could I see anything obvious under the bonnet.

Most of the Restricted Performance errors on this forum seem to have other error codes to help narrow down the search. It seems odd to have two separate instances of the error over a three hour journey but for it to continue with no further problems for at least half an hour after each reset.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

I had almost exactly the same, especially when on cruise control. no fault codes but it was filling up the dpf. what is your dpof reading?

turned out It was a split in the Pax inlet manifold. Only a high pressure smoke test found it. not saying yours is this, but get a high pressure test one first. will save a lot of teeth sucking later.

1750rpm……..in top?…………that must be reaching top end of 90mph +? Yikes!😁
I had similar issues but at slightly lower speeds, 65mph on M11 pootling down to Kent & RP pinged up, went off when I switched off/on. Turned out to be a blocked MAP sensor that sits on the front top of the plenum. If you remove the sensor (2 x torx) the sensor should have four little openings, mine were blocked, then look into the plenum where your sensor sits & see what’s there….mine was totally blocked.
Further investigation showed gunk sitting on the throttle body & all around the plenum.
Good spring clean & all’s good.

Let us know how you get on. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

My gearing has 1750rpm in the low to mid 70 mpg range.

According to IID Tool the DPF soot concentration is 9.80 and the DPF remaining volume is, erm, 0.

<edit>A bit more searching suggests the 9.80 is the important figure and the remaining volume is a red herring.</edit>

Hi Mike my 4.4 tdv8 at 50mph is over 1000 rpm so if you say 70mph is 1750 rpm something is not right have you had it on a code reader yet

Mine has always been around 1750 rpm for driving in the low to mid 70 mph range

No error codes of any description, sadly.

Mine is about 1400 rpm at 70mph so something very wrong if it's 1750rpm at 70mph - have you tried command shift to check it's in 8th gear? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

There is another thread where someone's car wouldn't go into top due to mismatched tyres (slightly different tread depth). Seems that if the ABS speed sensor picks up even a slight difference across the axle it thinks the car is cornering and things don't work like they should. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I had a closer look on the way home this evening. Looks like it is closer to 1600 rpm than 1750 rpm but it is definitely in top gear when I use the paddles.

What size wheels and tyre’s do you have. Have you compared the speedo mph with a gps speed on a phone app? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

20" wheels that it came with. Have done over 10K since I've owned it and haven't changed a thing.

This is mine

What tyre size?
If the TC in the gearbox is not locking it may cause higher revs and throw a restricted performance warning but I’d have assumed it would also throw a gearbox error code? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
