Clamp Meter

Can anyone recommend a decent clamp meter, my new battery has gone flat after sitting for 4 weeks (this isn’t the first time) so it looks like I need to track down whatever is draining the battery.

I have no idea how to do this so will be doing a read through of whatever threads there are while waiting for my meter.

You can just use a cheap multi meter connected up to the battery then start pulling fuses until you find it. Thumbs Up

I didn’t even know these existed, many thanks, a weekend of fuse pulling awaits.

I presume I just power everything off as far as possible and go through the fuse boxes methodically?

The cheap one I posted the ebay link for, sadly it only works up to 20 amp fuses ( its basically a Chinese copy of the Sealey model TA120 which I have) , I am still looking for a cheap fuse tester that does up to 80 amps, as the Range Rover has a few 40a, and I think some mega 50a fuses.

This one on ebay is rated up to 80 amps, so I will probably get that

What I can tell you is that modern cars of any type, do not like fuses being removed willy nilly, it can cause some weird issues with ECU's and computers on cars ( and we have nearly 30 of these ECU's on later Range Rovers)

If you still want to go down the clamp meter route, I got a UNI-T UT210E (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335675411604) which worked well monitoring the current drawn from the battery.

also good info is posted on this thred below if using a multimeter to get some idea what is drawing amps when car in sleep mode

You really need to get the Range into sleep mode, for any of this to work properly, so you need to push all the door, bonnet & tailgate latches to their closed position (but with the doors open) so that you have full access to the inside of the vehicle without activating any of the door latches which will, of course, wake up vehicle systems. Then wait about 20 mins or so for it to sleep.
NB remember to open the glove boxes and tape the latch on those as well !
