I really enjoy Grand Prix racing every fortnight or so, but it can become a bit repetitive, round and round, no (not much) overtaking, and Coultard going on about the tyres every 2 minutes. Some changes needed....


1. Take tyres out of the equation. Get Pirelli to make some that will last the race, that don't explode, and that allow the driver to drive.

2. Make the cars narrower, so they have more room to overtake

3. Introduce alternate routes on parts of the track to enable passing

4. Change the qualifying and the grid - like stock cars. Fastest qualifier gets some points, but starts from the back of the grid, down to slowest qualifer no points but starts at the front. Points for final place finish added to qualifying points. (Might need to move to a rolling start though.....) or points for cars overtaken (encourages faster qualifying time....)

5. Bumpers!

What would you change ? .

The last one by far was the best invention created by formula one and only one real car manufacturer ever used it for mass produced cars as a model in its own right. Fair do's merc are trying it out their own way but it's just not the same. 1. Tyres have to be part of the race, it adds to the 'unknown' factor.

2. If they make a tyre to last the whole race that means no pit stops, loosing the drama they add to the race, and even more "going round & round".

3. One hour of qualifying, no Q1, Q2 & Q3, the fastest is on pole and the slowest is last.
3a. Teams can make adjustments to the cars during qualifying but the car goes to the race with what ever settings they used on their last qualifying lap.
3b. Agreed about points for qualifying, maybe the top 10 places.

4. Bring back refuelling, it adds the strategy side of things, like the tyres, but allow teams to run with tanks large enough to for the while race if they want.

5. Do away with DRS or limit it's effect. On some tracks it makes defending against an overtake impossible. Sure, we all want overtaking but I want drivers to earn a place, not be given it because they can use a feature that the car in front isn't allowed too.

6. Again with DRS, it should be available in the same areas of the track for qualifying as it is for the race.

7. Stewards decisions for race incidents have to be made during the race and penalties applied. They're getting too good at delaying decisions until after the race.

8. Don't penalise the drivers for a team cock up, unsafe release, wheel nut not fitted correctly......., let the driver continue and take points off the team.

Reduce the front tyre width and downforce significantly. It'll reduce cornering speeds, yet still allow high maximum speeds.
This way, the teams with a poor chassis but a powerful engine stand a better chance.The reduced front-end downforce will hinder top speeds but will still allow good acceleration.
Combine this with a better compound for the rear tyres and we may actually see cornering on the throttle like the old days. Much more fun to watch and more skill for the driver.

I'm no fan of electronic driver aids. I want to see the drivers actually drive rather than become passengers, which is the way it was heading in the 90's. Si. <This is my name.

Refuelling - I have to say I was partial to the odd fireball and also driving off with the hose connected.
Tyres - bring in another manufacturer as well to keep Pirelli on its toes Geoff

I have also given up on F1 much prefer motogp if the F1 cars started the race with enough fuel (restricted amount ) and a choice of tyres but only 1 set and all engine/ suspension/ etc set in practice with the only adjustments made by the driver without radio link to pit crew Whoops just described bike racing.

I use to watch F1 avidly, also, but find it a bit tame now. The only one I always watch is Monaco due to the close proximity of the concrete . . .

I'm with KP on the turbo's - they were bonkers !

BTCC is superb to watch as are Caterhams !

Sport by its nature is unpredictable - sometimes it's interesting, sometimes it's boring. Changing it to always make it interesting normally removes the fundamental requirement of sport - a level playing field.

Putting the fastest qualifying car at the back of the grid seems against that to me. Actually, most of the rule changes of the last 20 years have I think spoilt the racing.

One thing I would like to see is a point or so for the fastest lap of the race. If you have a static last few laps with everyone protecting what they have some may gamble on doing a hot lap to get an extra point.
