I had a problem 2 weeks ago, when i turned the key it would turn over but not fire up but only sometimes and other times it would work, so i took to garage and they said that it was battery, new battery fitted done approx 400 miles since then and today it did it again, my wife drove 10 miles, stopped and 1 hour later tried to start it turned over but didnt fire up, so she tried again and it worked, she drove 2 miles filled up and tried to start again, it was 3 times of trying then on the 4th go it fired up, she got home and i checked it fired up everytime, so i ran it to the garage and they checked it all again it was fine, battery alternator all reading fine and no faults???

any ideas will be great help

There are a number of threads on here that have had similar issues. Sometimes it can be the barrel, sometimes the starter switch. Have a look with search and you should find them. Good luck. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

If it turns over but does not start then it probably won't be the key or the barrel. If it was the key wouldn't turn or the engine would not turn over and try to fire I don't think.

You could check the low/high pressure pump - maybe not delivering enough fuel..? Ash

However, i had a similar problem on the m57 engine in my 530d, turned out to be a faulty injector. Worth getting the codes read as a faulty injector will show a fault code. Will probably save a bit of runni g round guessing as well.

There are a few chaps on here who have swapped them out so it seems to be eminently doable and they can be bought reconditioned. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

it is deisel BTW , my misses has taken it out today and so far started everytime so the garage are saying use it till it does it again and then hopefully will come up with fault, so it not great not knowing if and when we going to break down,

is it on a main delaer that can read the injector codes or normal garage?

There are a number of code readers that can read the faults as the port is OBD II standard, depending on what equipment the garage has. But you don't necessarily have to go to the main dealers. Other option, is looking for members of FFRR close by with diagnostic equipment that can and want to help  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Hi there. I have a similar problem with my 2003 range rover vogue. It's a diesel. Sometimes it starts and sometimes it plays up. Last week I had had it lifted on a low bed for 140km and when we got home after paying $400 to the recovery guys, guess what, it started!!! And yesterday it would not start.!! Checked it again after 4 hours, it started! By the way it has a new starter motor. What could be the problem guys? Help..
