bonnet open error message

After an off road trip i am getting the 'bonnet open' bong quite often even though the bonnet is quite closed.

Ive looked for the sensor but can't find it. Any suggestions? Its an 08MY tdv8.

thanks.

Hi, the sensor is close to the fire wall on the passenger side (LHD not sure if it is there on a RHD as well but expect so) if I remember correctly. Have a look it is quite obvious. It will also set off the alarm at random or not let the alarm arm itself so better get it sorted.

WD40 and make sure it is tight in the bracket and maybe give the bracket a bit of a push upwards. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

If you have the PDF workshop manual you will see a picture of it on page 2486. That is the only pic I could find of it. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

G'day all

The problem appears to be fixed. I located the switch near the firewall on the driver side on my RHD RR.

I took it out blew it out with some air and applied some penetrating anti corrosion oil.

The switch was labeled BMW, with part no 9119052.

Thanks for the advice.

Well this problem returned after a day or two. I repeated the exercise but did nothing this time. The switch is a bit stiff despite applying some lubrication. The alarm has started going off occasionally without explanation. Im tipping the bonnet switch, indicating the bonnet is open, is the cause.

As the switch has a BMW part number I searched for BMWs with the same problem. One person suggested taping the switch in the bonnet closed position. If the problem is fixed then the problem is not the switch, but could be the bonnet position.

Ive taped it up and the problem appears to be gone. The bonnet seems to be sitting correctly. The bracket holding the switch seems ok. Any suggestions? Im thinking its the switch. ______________________________

Sounds like the switch is a goner. You can short circuit the wires, bypassing the switch and see if you have any "false alarms" during the next week or so. The switch shouldn't be pricey, not even in Oz where prices seem to be "inflated".

I think if you ask Dan at Duckworth, you will get a decent price and normal mail bubblewrap envelope won't be too expensive me thinks Wink MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Or stick a rubber foot on the bonnet where the switch touches - I did this and no more problems Geoff

Stan says nobody is going to nick your bonnet - probably true, but don';t forget you have a battery and other tasty goodies under the bonnet - i'd get it sorted if i were you. Thumbs Up 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

If it's like the previous LR incarnations of 'anti-intruder' systems under the bonnet, simply disconnect it. It will fail 'closed'.

Problem solved. Land Rover Addict

Ive swapped a bonnet switch from a BMW 330 to see what happens. No error message. So yes looks like a new switch.

thanks for the FFRR advice. Very Happy ______________________________
