i must be reading it wrong then...are you saying to 'turn' the tyre on the rim so that the worn outside edge is on the inside then because the tyre is probably an asymmetrical tyre then you cant do that...

I think I get it.

Because the tyres are 'sided' then the outside of the right hand tyre must become the inside of the left hand, necessitating the removal of the tyre from the rim.

if the nsf tyre/wheel goes to the osf , why would you take it off the rim?

and you cant put a worn outter into a worn inner position cos the outter tyre face must be facing outwards... ... - .- -.

It could be an issue with some tyres but if they are pointing forward as they should be how can it be an issue?

It seems illogical to say a directional tyre performs better on one side of a car to another.

correct me if i am wrong but i think you are trying to say

the tyres are directional (can only be fitted to one side of the car)
if they are fitted to the wrong side the tread patten would be going the wrong way and forcing water/snow into the center of the tyre instead of splaying it out from the sides of the tyre

it shoud say ROTATION with an arrow on the side wall if they are directional MOST winter tyres are

I'll look at my vreds when I get home but I'm positive there is no outside or inside marker on them just a rotational requirement. As long as the rotation is correct it doesn't matter what wheel or side they are on.

No don't get me wrong maybe some premium sportier tyres are sided for the reason of getting water out and improved handling but on an FF it will make sod all difference due to the weight of the vehicle, as you'd never be pushing the car enough on a track to notice the ha fling difference in poor weather. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I get what Stan is on about. Wifey's XF has both a rotational requirement AND they all have the word OUTSIDE on the outer facing side wall. They cannot be swapped from side to side, only front to back.

Vreds are directional but symmetrical

So you could de-mount and switch from left to right

Nerdy I know but I bought a digital tread depth gauge. The readings are quite useful.

Readings are centre of tread/highest point of outside tread block/outer shoulder of tyre, in MM.

NSF 7.05/6.19/3.40

OSF 7.2/5.75/3.11

NSR 7.01/5.9/3.53

OSR 7.11/5.85/3.7

It's interesting to see that the tyres are wearing evenly side to side and front and rear.

I cannot find the information anywhere but it would be useful if I knew the starting tread depth for reference. I'm assuming it to be approximately 9mm.

It would also be useful to know what the starting outer shoulder depth was.

Tyres have now covered about 10,000 miles; fitted February this year.
