Plastic sill removal.

I want to remove the plastic sill covers on my 2011 TDV8 Autobiography to make sure no rust is forming. I can see the pins that need pulling underneath but I don't want to snap anything on the top piece that's under the doors. Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks Kev.

Once all the plastic fixings are removed from underneath a sharp pull at one end will start to release it from the body - it’s held on with around 10 push in fixings (similar to the door card fixings) although some will usually deform / break, so worth having some spares to hand Thumbs Up

I am not 100% sure, but think mine were punched through from the top by tapping a suitable sized parallel nail punch, and then refitted by tapping through from the top with a small hammer.

Thanks for that chaps. I've had a look on the Allbrit parts diagram, and I think I may have some of them fasteners hiding in the garage somewhere.

I saw that. Very useful. I would have liked to see the sill cover removal though. I can see myself having to do this soon. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

It's not hard to do, but I chewed up a lot of the lower two piece clips ( the ones where you are inserting a pin to expand ) removing them and one of the top push fit clips snapped, so have some spares on hand.
From memory, you have to have to remove the trim panel below the side vents on the front wing, but this is easy enough. Mine is an early car with no side steps or anything else. Look on Google images for pics of the sill and you can see all the trim clip points. The top row are push fit and really just yank the sill out of these once have got all the two part clips.

I thought the work he did in that video a bit rubbish if honest. You really want to allow two days to do this properly if you have light surface rust. I would treat with any rust with Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 ( you really want to cure overnight ) and then top coat with paint, they something like Bilt Hamber Dynax S50 wax for the whole arch and treat the full length of the sill.

If your arch lip where it meets the plastic sill trim is heavily corroded or holed, expect the sill to be similar as the picture he show in that YT vid and require welding. The lower lip of the wheel arch, and the area where the plastic box housing the brake pad wire is located, is also like to require abrasive rust removal and treating. Oh, pull the jacking point pads too and treat under these.

Nice one Dr Rob. Just wished I could have actually seen him pull the sill covers off. I can see where the clips are though. Very good of you. Thanks. Kev.
