It really is a stupid design & I hope the person responsible for not having a rubber lip was sent to Siberia & possibly still there! Yours Dr Rob doesn’t look too bad at all, do you think anyone has been there before?

I’d say nobody had been there before me since it was built. I’m on home holiday this week so just doing it slowly every morning before the sun comes round and roasts me in my black boiler suit Rolling with laughter 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

NDFI (nicedayforit) used these rubber trims on a previous thread, the seller he bought from is away until 1st March so I found the identical ones for £1 extra from another seller, but should be here midweek. Others on here have used them apparently & seem fairly pleased so I thought I'd chance it.

I put these on a few months back but they’ve not kept the lip clean enough for my liking as they don’t cover the width of the lip enough imho. Am going to fit Freelander 2 ones LR001623 (need 2) as part of current work Thumbs Up 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

This is an FL2 one, installed:

It fits very well, grips the flange nicely but just needs trimming down in length by 1/4" or so.

How easily please does the whole plastic liner come out ?

Think my car is fine for rust, but would like to check & add some extra protection to be sure.

I believe I removed all the necessary screws, & horrible plastic fixings, so I could remove the liner, but it still seemed firmly fixed.

Pushed & pulled a fair bit, but stopped for fear of damaging it, or possibly even breaking it.

Have watched you tube film which says “remove liner”, but it wasn’t - for me - that simple !

However, looking at this thread, everyone else is managing !

Thanks for any help.

It’s a tough one to pull out. I had to peel it over the wing lip then drop it out. But it was a coldish morning in the workshop.
Plus the paint on the lip was gone an rusty so didn’t have to worry about scratching the paint.
You won’t break them they are bloody tough.

Here’s how my 2002 looked after a quick scrub with the angle grinder an wire wheel. They were rusty. Bottom of the c post holed an about 6 inches on the sill near the jacking points.

All welded up. The pock marked bits sealed with a rust converter ex mod stuff.
Then buzzwelds Cio. Then a spray of under seal as a final protect.
Kept me busy for a week of lockdown

There are also a couple of threaded studs welded to the wheel arch which the liner has to be flexed over to release it. It's quite tricky to do that as the edge of the liner also tends to catch on the lip around the arch itself.

I know many of you might disagree but my thoughts are not to paint over rust even if you've treated it. You only have to leave a tiny speck for it to start bubbling again. I prefer to use waxoil directly on the patch because it has active antirust protectors that soak into the surface. Be kind with any replies. Rolling Eyes

Kev - I’ve always painted over rust after rubbing down then applying a phosphoric acid based product like Jenolite or Kurust first. I then apply lots of clear Waxoyl over and regularly inspect and add more. My plan is to waxoyl the lip then add the Freelander 2 trims.
I guess it’s always a personal preference Thumbs Up Bow down 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

That's good mate and I wouldn't disagree with how you're tackling it. Personal choice as you say. I've just had some U shaped rubber seal delivered which will cover the entire lip when the door is closed, so no chance of any stones hitting the metal work and it only cost me a fiver for 2 metres. I'm doing the whole rim in one piece with an angled cut in the centre to go around the kink. Cheers Kev.
