Looking at the failures on these, these they seem pretty instantaneous, there is no discolouration on the edges of the cracks which can be seen. Would you find a crack on one which was about to go bang. Dunno, it’s not a bad idea in principle but not sure you would see anything. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I'm with NMJ, IMHO cast aluminium will not crack like steel, cracks in steel tend to start one side and slowly work across as the material is malleable, aluminium is too brittle, it will fail in one go which is what looks like is happening, it appears corrosion due to dissimilar metals is building up in the joint and splitting it apart.

If I had one I would take the joint apart, clean it well and use some anti corrosion assembly paste (not copperslip) and keep an eye on it in the future...

It hasn't been a 'known' issue until recently and I don't think its across all makes. It's definitely a major cause for concern and should IMHO be subject to a recall by the manufacturers of affected vehicles. BMW i3 Electric Car

Things like that happen all the time. If the mechanics do work on the car and don't torque the bolts properly then it's going to eventually give up due to wither over tightening creating a pressure point or if its not done up enough corrosion will start setting in to the area I guess

Morning everone and i feel lucky to be alive today as this same Catastrophic failure happened on the nearside of my 2015 L405 yesterday when i was manovering at low speed on a petrol garage forcout after i have just been traveling on the motoway with a trailer, i had the car recovered to my local Landrover specialist who i used for my last service and up utill then it had always be serviced at Lanrover colchester.Its got 84000 on the clock and everything is original on the suspension and its never had damage and never been offroad and ner been kerbed as the original 22 wheels are excellent.
I have found a new part with part number LR134929 which Supersedes LR099134 & LR115105 but the part number it seems i need is LR146343 and i am being told that the wheel knuckle for cars after 2017 might not fit as part numbers changed would anyone know if the part changed or is it just the part number. Or even if there is only one Knuckle that has ever been made for all models of L405 and there have just been part number changes.

Assuming your VIN ends in something earlier than FA207673 then the correct part is LR146343 (the succession of part numbers for these vehicles is LR040119->LR078150->LR078376->LR099019->LR146343 source: JLR online EPC)
List price is £822.60 inc vat (ouch) but it does include the hub and wheel bearing. This fits up to and including 2017 model year.

From the part numbers it does seem that the part changed after 2017 although I am able to find no details as to what changed.
