Transfer box fault

Hello
I bought range rover L322 2003 with 3.0 TD6 for my girlfriend and low range has never been worked, i thought it is just transfer box motor but i removed it, tested and cleaned (Just like powerfuluk video) Everything seems to work in bench but when i select neutral and pull low range button it doesnt do anything. Earlier this year it did show "select neutral" text on instrument panel when car was started but now anymore.

On iidtool i read fault codes it gives
0x5230 Motor A and B off, A short circuit to ground
0x5234 Motor A and B off, B short circuit to ground
0x5238 Motor A and B open load

And TCM gives "0x99 CAN bus transfer box range error: general fault"

Instrument pack gives code 0x8D transmission interface bus fault

Is transfer box ecu toasted?

ECM gives p0380-80 Glow plug relay failure - glow relay defective and P1180-01 Low side fuel pressure sensor plausibility (fuel filter) - reduction in quanity due low pre pressure. I guess i need to change glow plugs and fuel filter also.

I've got a 2nd hand transfer box ECU for the TD6 if you want to try it. I think I paid around £50 - if it fixes your problem then pay, otherwise send it back to me. But the problem I had was the transfer box motor. Got a recon one where the internal sensor has been replaced with a new improved design - think the chap sales on eBay now. Send me a PM if interested.

How did you get on replacing the glow plugs by the way? Were they a pain to remove?

Removing intake manifold. It is quite easy. 4 of them was easy but 2 just unscrewed bolt off and core of glow plug stayed. Then i left it running and did few drive arounds and they popped out.

Hi Natasayar and Nigor,

Did you find out what the problem was? I have exactly the same issue. My shift motor and potentiometer work perfectly.

Kind regards,

Mark.

^^ Mark, are you sure there are no cracks in the potentiometer soldered joints? Mine had cracked joints. I resoldered them and that cleared the problem. That was 3-1/2 years and 25,000km ago. Ron B. VK2OTC

Hello,

I found the problem and fixed. I disassembled the trasfer box motor unit. Tested with right pins like showed in the video of powerfulukltd. It was working but still have same error codes. Then i noticed copper cables of electric motor carbon brush touching the metal cover outside of motor. I arrenged the cable routes. And mount again. All worked nice. Hope it helps you too

Thx Natasayar, this info is very useful. I right away get started to find out. Still is a mystery why the motor spins on the bench when directly connected to the battery 🤔

Thx for the advice. I have already figured out that this is not the problem. Potentiometer readings are good. From 1.4 KOhm to 4.8 KOhm when I slightly turn the inner ring for about 340°.
