United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

Nice work Smile

I’ve not even driven mine yet since doing all the oils, replacing the front diff and having the rear rebuilt.

What’s really Censored annoying is that I noticed a drop of golden diff oil on the bottom of the newly rebuilt rear diff at the weekend. Won’t be happy if I need to remove it and send it back to them under warranty. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Engine Bay clean and Detail

So, after spending time underneath I decided to give the engine bay a clean up. It was dusty and grubby. A spray over with 50/50 mix of G101 was agitated using detailing brushes in and around all the crevasses, corners etc until it frothed up and lifted the dirt.

I gently rinsed it off with a light spray of water avoiding the MAF and other electrical plugs where possible and dried off with towels. Final stage was a spray of GT-85 to give it some shine and then buffed off -

Whilst here i noticed this which looks like it should have a hose attached - does anyone know if/what should be attached ?

Thanks Thumbs Up

I'm trying to track down the stickers on the slam panel which list the Air Con details on one and two just above each headlight unit - if anyone knows if they are available ?? Gavin

That's come up nicely!

Best thing to do for the stickers is get in touch with Rob at Duckworths and ask him.

That union that you think should have a pipe on it is blanked off inside with aluminium. It's cast into the housing but doesn't go anywhere Smile I've read somewhere that it's only used on the RRS but have never been near one to confirm.

Will drop Robin an email about the stickers Thumbs Up Gavin

Doors Covers

Door Handles, well covers. Due to the high wax content in the original Door handles they fade and look pretty rubbish over the years so I invested in a Brunel Grey Door Handle Cover Kit from www.PowerfulUK.com Not cheap at £63 (well, since the last time I bought a set anyway) but I think they smarten up the handles & sides.

..and then of course.. I find a set of Brand New Genuine Door Handles, in Brunel Grey, in my 'Parts Store' Rolling Eyes I must've bought these when I had my 4.4 Petrol years ago... Gavin

I’ve got them on mine too.

Normally I don’t like covers on door handles but those ones work nicely. Thumbs Up 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Good to hear Sandy

I’m thinking of doing both door handles and mirrors in the Buckingham Blue covers

Rear Sills ... Crusty and then ....

When I bought the SC the seller sent me pictures of the rear arches down by the sills and of the rear arches by the bumper as they weren't in the advert. I expected to see some rust and they were honest enough to say it had bubbling on the arch of one side too.

As bought - Drivers Sill

So, I knew there would be some rust down there and I'd been told the Driver Side had already been 'looked at' before by someone.

Side steps need to removed before the sills. The Air Tank covers two of the side steps mounting bolts that go into the body there making it difficult and of course one sheared off - they are tiny. Next I removed the plastic trim clips underneath and then, with both doors open removed the sill covers with a firm pull outwards. Take out the wheel arch liners too.

Once off I removed the Jacking Pads (Just leaver out the small Plastic Pin in the middle with a thin trim tool - DONT whack the pin through as you will distort the pad and if the mount is really rusty, force it up in the Sill itself.

Drivers side was much the same. Not a pretty sight so needs looking at and fixing.

I looked into the sills with my mini camera , ignore the date on the camera, and was glad to see the rust hadn't spread to the inner sills on each side.

Booked it in to my local garage who had a good look beforehand and said those immortal words - "Leave it to me".

And its back. Rot cut right out, new outer sills and strengtheners fabricated, welded beautifully and given a spray of body colour. Cavities all waxed to.

I'm very happy with the work. Its solid as a rock under there now and will last for years.

Next steps are to refit the covers but not the steps just yet. The rear arches have some rot in them just above the bumper so at the end of June its going back to have this looked at. Replacement panels have been ordered in case they are needed.

Once that's been sorted it'll be having a respray from the sills back to the rear quarter and blended in at the same time. I will then treat the inside of the arches as David has done on his SC in his post. I had rubbed it all down and treated the arches to rust inhibitor before the welding work anyway. Gavin

Headlight Renovation

The Headlights on my SC were pretty dire when I bought it. They had a 'greeny', moss like covering and were rough to the touch. This had been picked up on the last few MOT's as an Advisory so I wanted to get them sorted out.

I bought the Holts kit as I'd seen good reviews and the drill attachment for the pads definitely helps with the cleanup - I have tried to clean headlights up before with loose graded paper and water but it never seemed to work to well.

The trick with the kit is to keep the surface wet with a spray bottle of water and not to use the drill at a fast setting - try to see the swirl marks on the headlights as you proceed. Remember these are plastic so don't go mad.

As you can see I removed the headlights to do this so I didn't go near the paintwork. Takes 10 minutes to remove the grille and 3 bolts on each lamp unit.

This is the kit -

Bought from Amazon for around £16

I think they came up really well. Efficiency has improved too. Gavin

That welding work looks like a nice result! They've done a good job on that! Once mine is back on the road I'm going to get the cill covers off to get a look under there properly. There's nothing creeping on it yet but am expecting to see it starting I reckon.

That's the same headlight kit I used. The results are great compared to what they are but I'm not entirely happy with the result. I noticed PowerfulUK sell the lenses so am tempted to try them later in the summer once my other spending has stopped.

Yes, I'm really pleased with the welding and it will be an interesting write up when they do the arches.

Headlights - Yes, not perfect by any means but far better than they were.

I've just changed the headlight bulbs to what I was running in my TDV8 from HIDS-Direct D-Lumina - 6000K D3S 35w Xenon Vision HID Xenon Bulb Set (Twin Pack)

https://www.hids-direct.co.uk/d-lumina-d3s...t-2-bulbs/

I never had any issues with them in 2 years and they produce a nice Diamond White, white/bluish light.

I don't think your spending will every stop David but I feel like I'm running a close second in the Supercharged stakes at the moment Rolling with laughter Gavin
