Nokia 6100

I've been looking for one of these to fit in my centre console for a few months and one popped up on Ebay. Its just arrived in very good condition - I like a bit of 'Retro-Phone-age' Laughing

New Horns...

After seeing these fitted by fellow forum member - I think it was Caesium - I fitted these new Horns from Hella. £18 from Amazon - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001CC...&psc=1 Removed the plastic retaining clips under the front splash shield in the wheel arch, Headlights, removed the bolt holding the bumper and the bolts that hold it in place along the top front and one below the grill. Gently prized it off and away which allowed enough room to remove the existing Horn bracket and swap over the horns over to the new ones. The connectors were different and I'm not happy with how I've terminated the existing wires so will revisit at some point, but its all I had at the time. They do sound rather good Thumbs Up

Supercharger Oil Service

Oil service coming up but before I do that I had a spare hour so decided to do an oil service on the Supercharger.

Nothing in the history to say it had been done so at 83,000miles it was long due from what I've read up on. The kit from Powerhouse-Uk https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161420060661 was purchased on Friday morning and arrived on Saturday Thumbs Up

Very good instructions within so I just followed those. I got out 180ml of horrible filthy oil and got in 180ml until it started to dribble out. Yes, its fiddly and yes I have lost my allen key down onto the right hand side of the top of the engine when tightening up the filler plug... Had a look with my mini camera and its lodged. Frustrating but.. at least its not the 4.2 in the Jaguar... that's nigh on impossible to drain the oil from...

Just ordered the kit for mine. Will be interesting to see the state of the oil that comes out. 83000 miles on mine now. Previous cars:

Oil change done today. Good call on using rag to prevent loss of plug/Allen key. Bit of a faff getting the pipe as far down into the bottom of the supercharger as possible (had to warm the end of the hose to make more flexible) but managed to get between 175 and 180 ml of oil out. The oil, although it was dark, looked to be in a reasonable condition. Filled up with 180 ml of fresh oil.
Then came the major faff of reinserting the plug. I think a gynaecologist would have struggled. Took nearly an hour to tease the damned thing into place. Sorted in the end. Previous cars:

I found it difficult but a trick I found was to magnetise the plug before putting it on the end of the 3/16 Allen key - it seemed to hold it enough to get it in place and then turn it gently to start it off. In saying that I still dropped the Allen key down the side Sad Gavin

Got it started with the Allen key but had plenty of attempts to get it into the right position to marry the thread starts up. Good job the missus wasn't there to hear my fruity language. Previous cars:

Oil Change

Last oil and filter change on my SC was back in November 2021 by Land Rover Wimbledon at 79k so it was time to change the oil and filter before winter sets in.

Genuine filter (Ebay) and Oil from Smith And Allan ( 2x Smith & Allan Momentum FSX 5W-30 - Engine Oil - 5L) https://www.smithandallan.com/product/smit...e-oil-4140

I got a little plastic tub and cut a rectangle hole in it to divert the oil away from the sub frame when I removed the sump plug otherwise its shoots out and covers everything.

8.4litres in and its just below the max after 20 miles.

That's all the oils changed now. Next thing to do is Brake and Power Steering Fluid. Gavin

The sump plug drain on these is a nightmare. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put it on the side so it goes everywhere should be shot! Laughing

3rd Brake light

Now the weather is getting better I've started to look at a few little jobs that need doing. Over the weekend I replaced the 3rd brake light as my original was split, not seated properly and letting in water. Not ideal with the amount of rain we have had lately.

New part was procured from China for £20 and I was really impressed with the quality. It works as it should and the only thing I had to do was snip off the connector from the old unit and connect it up to the new one as per the pictures below. Sealed it all with a fine bead of sealant under the unit and around the rubber grommets that I could find.

Water ingress - Rear Tailgate Hinges

Whilst I was up working around the tailgate I decided to remove the tailgate hinges, one at a time, and clean/seal the brackets where they meet the body. I had about 2in of water in the boot a few weeks ago and it needed sorting out.

Easy enough job, just support the upper tailgate whilst you are doing it. I also replaced my tailgate seal whilst I was there with a genuine one bought from JCW on here.

I cleaned up the whole area afterwards and it looks nice and neat now and more importantly, no more pond in the boot Thumbs Up
