ADBLUE reading service menu

Hi everyone . I have a 3.0tdv vogue - came up with incorrect diesel exhaust fluid quality detected. Looked in service menu and it showed 530 MLS range for adblue. Ive topped adblue up but still coming up same message and the adblue figure is going down daily by a few miles and not resetting to reflect what's been added. Any ideas what to try next? Thanks

When I bought my L405 I asked the dealer as part of the sale to top off the AdBlue tank which they did but the car did flag inferior quality and it got through the tank particularly quickly. I bought some AdBlue in from Screwfix and filling the tank with that ended the inferior message and its consumption was much less per 1k miles driven.

I assume from this that the car dealer topped off the tank from a watering can.

I have the SDV8, but I think the tank is the same. It can take time for the filling to register. Does the menu have an amount to fill up?

I see two lines: 1 is the distance, and 1 is the amount to refill. I don't add unless it asks me, and then I fill it up. My current range is 7400km. It will likely ask me to add 6 or 7 litres soon. The tank is 18 litres.

How much did you add? SDV8 AB MY 2020

I did read somewhere not to overfill the tank due to level sensor issues. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

I would do a drain & refill, a DIY job if you’re up to it, and you have an iiD tool to do the pump pressure test and reset. Best to get all the old sh*tty fluid out rather than mix it with the new.

A good opportunity to examine and rust treat the (inevitably rusty) tin cradle and put some aluminium anti-seize on the steel bolts to prevent the threads galling as they will in time. Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Hi all thanks for the replies - I put around 7 LTRs in. The 515 miles to no restarts message has popped up today. It's my first RR and not very confident to drain and refill myself. I think likely get it booked in with a local specialist?

From WS Manual it looks like your level sensor has failed or you have an air lock.
Do you have a code reader? any DTC that cant be reset on DEF system.
You should have DTC P2BAE-00 try erasing this.

The DEF tank module is located at the bottom of the DEF tank. The
moduler is welded into the tank and can only be replaced as a complete
assembly. The DEF tank module includes a life-time fit filter, a fluid level and
temperature sensor and a heater element to defrost the DEF in extreme
cold climates. The DEF level sensor is an ultrasonic device located in the
DEF tank module, which sends the DEF level value to the ECM via PWM
signals. The ultrasonic cone angle is 10° and the readings are most accurate
when the vehicle is stationary and on level ground.

DEF remaining, providing an estimated km/miles figure remaining, prior to
emptying the tank

The DEF tank is fitted with combined temperature/ultrasonic level sensors.
Circuit continuity and plausibility of the signals received are checked within
the ECM. An ultrasonic “no echo malfunction” is set if no valid echo from
the ultrasonic sensor is detected during a predefined time. This typically
happens when the ultrasonic signal of the sensor is blocked, or if the DEF
tank is overfilled (the air pocket at the top of the DEF tank is no longer
present)
.

The DEF quality is monitored after refilling of the DEF tank. The monitoring
begins when refilling is identified. In order to recognise a poor quality DEF,
the OBD system uses the SCR catalytic converter NOx efficiencies, returned
by the passive SCR catalytic converter monitoring, to build long and short
term records of the average NOx conversion efficiencies. If the short term
record becomes significantly different to the long term record, the
malfunction is attributed to the quality of the DEF. The message centre
warning system is activated when such a malfunction is detected.
Simultaneously, the MIL is directly activated on the first occurrence of the
malfunction detection

Everyone has their favourites but if its a cheap reader that also clears/reset DTC then you cant go wrong with a Autel AP200
