i got under the car this morning, and had a look at the wiring.
What a Bastard of a job it is to get the connector off & then back on !
Long story short, I couldnt see any chaffing or breaks in any of the wiring, it all looks good.

The symptoms i have is that a parking brake fault is only given on the screen when i lift the hand brake switch. I can scan the hand brake module with the obd reader, clear fault codes, etc.
What I don't get though, is it clearly detects the switch being pressed or released.

And something i noted that I don't recall ever being like it before, when i put my foot on & off the brake pedal with engine running and in park, there is a noise heard from under the centre console. I have recorded it on my phone and will try to attach the clip.

my heater blower is not working (although stopped working at a different time). Really hoping i don't have some major wiring loom issue somewhere  Too many toys, not enough time

On mine there was no visible break in the cabling, it was more noticeable as a swelling in the cable under the insulation and when I touched it, it fell apart.

On mine the cable from the connector comes back to a couple of plastic clips that hold it in place to the sub frame and a black pipe. Maybe I need to have another go.
Currently got the centre console in bits... Too many toys, not enough time

You can see the wiring loom on the right hand side of this picture coming through the body.

Ah ok, I didnt pull anything like that much out.
so not at the connector end but closer to where it goes around the inner wing ?

The black box there is for the abs sensor. I did have a fiddle about with the wiring there as it seemed a tight bend around the wing. My loom has a plastic corrugated bit after the bend, and a hard plastic protector pad taped to the loom, so the pad rubs if anything.

I think i have a locking diff, there is another big round connector to something under there too. You can to see it to the right of my 2nd pic.

Now off to have another good swear at the bleedin thing. Too many toys, not enough time

Take 2.
Unplugged round connector from different, small one at bottom, and hand brake connector. There is another one i cant see where it goes.
Removed wheel liner too.

Dave was your loom protected by a plastic corrugated sleeve ?
this is for the area you said yours was swollen. Its clipped to the top of the air bag turret. Also you can see the plastic bit on the inside of the bend to protect it.
Or was it the braided bit by the bend ?

If I can find where the other wire goes and disconnect it I will have the whole loom in the wheel arch to check it.

The car I had the fault on was a 2007 car which didn't have that sleeve around it.

The other side of that goes over to the other side of the car from memory so would be quite a pain to remove.

OK, thanks for the reply.

After checking all this, I'm not convinced mine is a corroded wiring issue like yours was, the loom looks in good condition, no cuts or chaffs. I'm not sure why a wire would break inside any of the protective sheath.
That's not to say it's not a wiring fault somewhere else though.
Going to put it back together and order another switch. Too many toys, not enough time

Definitely worth trying the switch before going any further.

I tried it first on mine and got nowhere with it. I might still have the switch I bought somewhere.

New switch arrived today. Swapped them over and it now works, Yay.

Out of interest i popped the old switch apart, pictures below. Not much in it except some resistors, a capacitor, an led and conductive switch pads.

I wonder if the switch fault happens if only one pad conducts.
I might stick my meter on it and have a look see.

That's a great result, always nice when it's an easier fix!

Could you be more specific to the wire location; I inadvertently touched my e brake and it fixed on; disconnecting battery let it loose; but I thought w/o looking however that it felt like the pull handle wasnt returning properly; ID just be happy to have it out of service so it doesnt happen again and so have pulled the two fiuses for it.
