On mine there was no visible break in the cabling, it was more noticeable as a swelling in the cable under the insulation and when I touched it, it fell apart.

The car I had the fault on was a 2007 car which didn't have that sleeve around it.

New switch arrived today. Swapped them over and it now works, Yay.

Could you be more specific to the wire location; I inadvertently touched my e brake and it fixed on; disconnecting battery let it loose; but I thought w/o looking however that it felt like the pull handle wasnt returning properly; ID just be happy to have it out of service so it doesnt happen again and so have pulled the two fiuses for it.
