No it’s something moving.

Possibly the transfer box needing a double flush. Lots of posts on that here. Clonking when taking off, like something in the boot. Once moving it vanishes. I had that took it into Mikey couple of weeks back, double flush, recalibrate something, noise gone. Early days but seems positive. Used to drive me nuts |

Mine does have a clunk too . Had in to MD who advised all 4 ARC bushes were shot and were the first port of call. Replaced all 4, made zero difference. Weird thing is , my first 405 (2013) did something very similar, 3 clunks when pulling of from a standstill, and sometimes on a rolling take off from a roundabout. It's way more pronounced with the newer one though, and just heard it when reversing in a parking space which is a 1st.

I don’t have an answer for you but I think I have the same issue. I often hear it when accelerating onto a roundabout. Especially if I’ve been rolling up to it Previously owned: Range Rover L322 2007 TDv8 Vogue SE in Santorini Black |

It sounds like a ball rolling in the boot, almost seems the diff is slipping.

I have a 68 plate SV, 48,000 miles, had my rear differential and transfer case flushed a few months ago and I think it’s worse. Im now convinced the wrong oil has been used as there is a specific oil to use on the edif and not the type used on the L405 open diff. I’ve purchased the correct oil from LR and will do it myself this weekend and see if there’s an improvement. I’ve read lots of issues on the ediff and although most display the same symptoms, some are slightly odd, but is still down to the incorrect grade of oil. |
