IID Updater

How do you get the IID Updater facility to work and recognise the BT G3!

Cheers

Gary

Hi Gary

There are some steps listed on page 45 of the manual, which you can grab here if you don't already have a copy.

Which steps have you been able to complete so far?

Hi Steve,

I have installed the updater software, run it and got the cannot find device error message. Does the IID need to be connected to the vehicle and is there something special with the supplied USB cable?

Cheers

Gary

Just checked the Gap Support FAQ pages. Looks like they have not heard of Windows 10!

I use windows 10 myself for the update, so I believe it should work fine.

I've taken some screenshots of the steps I used successfully.

Firstly, you only need to connect the gapiid to the PC via usb (no need for it to be connected to the car) and use the find device option.

It should find the device and connect automatically.

If the device is connected then you should be able to use the Program Firmware option, which will automatically detect your current firmware version and then compare this with the latest available.

Proceed with the update.

Once complete you should see something like the above.

Hopefully that helps, let me know!

Very possible it's an issue with that usb cable then. I don't have mine to hand at the moment but it looks like it's micro usb jack on the tool itself, which was a pretty common connection type until recently. You may have some lying around from older tech.

The original cable is quite short, and it's likely this is for signal integrity. When updating firmware this can be important, depending how the device handles the upgrade process. (If it writes the data to the device in a temporary location, confirms the integrity of the firmware and then flashes it vs writing directly from the PC to the memory itself). Not sure how much of an impact it would make for the Gap tool, but if you have a thicker, shielded cable that's short in length, it would be preferable to a long thin cable.

I had issues to begin with, but now I have a short 1 metre USB cable that works every time, and also using Windows 10 on a laptop

NB Patrick sent me an update firmware earlier this year, and with this new USB cable it worked first time

Some micro USB leads only have the internal wire connections to charge a device. These are supplied with things like Ebay / Amazon torches, etc. - things that only require power from their lead!

Other cables have the required data and charging lead connections, so try changing the USB lead you're using and see if your PC recognises the GAP tool then Thumbs Up
