Glad you found one at last. I did my own sc refurb on my 4.2 or my mate did use a genuin coupler not the solid type had to redo mine as the solid types rattles badly.

Thanks just going to send the unit off for a full rebuild i cant be bothered to do all this later

I’m planning on doing the zip-tie tensioner & guides replacement on my 5.0 SC so would be good to compare notes on this in due course

I have this in my eBay watchlist and the seller sent me an offer to buy at £80.

The only other special tool I think is needed is a crankshaft timing tool, inserted in place of the crankshaft position sensor & is primarily to ensure everything is aligned. Circled in this kit (which is the full kit needed if you’re doing the full chain replacement)

Only a crank lock tool is needed from what i gather now, ill try get it for 80 also.

Ill sell it on here once im done along with the bumpers and wheels.

What mileage is your car? Mines at 120k having spoken to powerhouse they claimed every single supercharger needs a full rebuild at 800 posted and they only last 150k.....what bs

So i will just do the snout, coupler and oil and call it day.

I went to see a 80k car that was up for 15 i offered him 9.5 at the time as it was quite rusty had some scartches and no ac he told me no. 2 weeks later hes asking me he accepts my offer....

Sadly for the sellers there are very few stupid people like us who buy 15 year old 5 litre headaces 😄 and they dont realise its a buyers market! Just like houses.

I managed to get it for £5,750 which I was pretty happy with given the work needed and that it’s a slightly rarer Autobiography Black model. The downside is it has 143k miles, although I do very few miles so it won’t increase by much while I have it.

I’ve already ticked most of the jobs off the list, the main ones left to do are the SC coupler which definitely needs changing having checked the nose pulley free play / run the engine with the belt off and then the tensioners / guides on a preventative basis. There are no current or historical codes for timing issues, albeit nothing in the history suggesting they’ve ever been changed, so likely still has the earlier parts fitted. Then it’s just routine maintenance stuff.

Not sure how long I’ll keep it as I bought it as a project to tinker with  Jonathan

That’ll keep you busy for a while!

Ref the belt pulleys and tensioners, whilst you’re in there it makes sense to change them in my view.

However, rather than buying all new parts, you can just replace the bearings, they are all the same size.

I think you’ll need 4 or perhaps 5 bearings - two (or perhaps three?) idlers and two tensioners. Jonathan

Finally got one

4 owners from new 61 plate 5.0 sc autobiography

Driver super smooth no rattles or knocks and super strong on power

128k miles full service history last service including plugs 125k
Sumatra black
fully black interior
Chauffer controls
Hk
Auto deploy steps
And the usual stuff

Chains water pump and beltdrive done at 121k this is the smoothest engine i heard even compared to a 80k version

2 air shocks changed recently
High pressure fuel pump changed in 2018
Gearbox and driveline oils done at 110k

Issues of the bat

Battery very weak easy fix full charge and repair cycle to start
Oil leak around oil filter housing
Small Coolant leak
Parking Sensors button flashes no beeps
Flicker tastic cheap lights all round sadly
Interior lights middle mains don't come on when pressed or when door opens fuse?
Fog lights dont work fuse?
Needs new front discs and pads
Rears


Time to adress the above hopefully all is fairly simple

Then make it look classy over the comming week

So i found the coolant leak sadly supercharger off job

I was also missing a 36m fan clutch spanner hindering further progress to track oil leak

Battery is toast cant hold charge what so ever

Car has some silly audio install with switched power to amp and capacitor as well as stick on tweeters on dash.

Need to rip all this crap out

Im guessing i need that common hose near the rear side?

At this point best replacing
Check snout
valley pan gasket
Charger gasket
Manifold gasket
Coolant pipes
Cooler?

Any other suggestions ?

Car also needs 2 rear shocks 1 is leaking


Disc and pads all round a full fluid service and that should be all the mechanical stuff for now

Before looking to parking sensors and lighting issues
