Todays shenanigans

Completed bumper install right tip was adjusted after

Removed rear arch liners know this pain too well from e46m3 having cut out and replaced inner and outer arches so made sure to do all the preventative steps

Did all the steps will wax tomorrow and fit covers. I left it like this as this aint a resto just making sure its good for another decade

Just cleaning 14 years of mud alone was horrific

Moved on to rear brakes

1 slide pin was seized luckily managed to free it on the vice and made it serviceable once more will replace as the boot is also torn.

Rear Pads discs shoes done

Luckily had the machine to auto wind back handbrake and disc came out without any effing about.

My 2021 autel can do all workshop functions yaay

Front discs a few arms and all driveline line fluids if all goes well....the car will be back on its feet!

Then the engine!

Yesterdays shenanigans

Arch liners restored then all underside surface rust management and protection to front axle comeplete

All drive line oils

All orings changed only needed on transfer case

Auto Gearbox was done 20k miles ago 2 owners ago so wont bother for now

Will not be doing Metal gearbox sump conversion looks like it may interfere with this heatshield bracket

Started front brakes pins were seized and took too long pads removed almost to wear indicator discs are pretty shot

Progress was halted as for some reason i didnt have a 21mm spline multipoint socket to remove the front calipers

Got one for today!

The ball joints looks scary...rust welded

As much as i want the car on the ground it does not want me to just yet what a pos this was ball joint was to remove took the best part of 2 hours

These were surprisingly functioning well but it bolts on to my new upper control arm so id hate to have to do it separately in the future.

Best technique was cut the top off with a recip saw

Burn the **** out of it with blow torch until the ball joint plastic socket deforms and u can take it out in peices

Remove ball

Cut a notch at the top side of ball joint frame weakening the structure and smash the remaining collar down

Hopefully i waste less time on the other side.

3 corners sorted! Final stretch for underside and suspension and brakes

All that remains is the final corner and brake bleed and car will be on its feet.

I did also notice a torn boot on the nearside lower arm but the joint and bushes are still solid. Hopefully i can replace it with one the of the spare boots im removing and it lives for another few years.

Car are operating height hub nut to fender around 18.5 inchs to tighten upper arm to subframe at 165nm plus 90 degress.

Pray for me! So much more to do!

In 2 hours before work today i managed to remove other cùnt of a ball joint.

Then replaced the ball joint dust boot for lower arm salvaging the cover from one of the the other joints i changed.

This salvaging made me feel like a abosolute gigachad, i could have climbed mount everest but saving this arm made me feel happier, im a terrible columist but i hope you get me!

I will finish brakes on last corner and bleed all brakes tonight. Car will be down on its feet once more!

Car is finally on its feet

For some reason i have some gremlins and cannot re enable normal handbrake and suspension mode so i left the battery on charge hoping its a voltage issue

But she is looking great!

I guess i found the end of my pdc woes.

Some stupid in series wired system with the rear being primary just like our old beemas.

With the rear wiring break fixed it finally shows the remaining error all 4 front sensors are facked? I think not another wiring break to find! Luckily front bumper is yet to be changed.

Time to start stripping the engine bay! Well after 2 things are enabled

So charger off and all roller bearings pressed out and replaced

Some how it broke my no name vice but still worked better with sockets and hammer

Leak must be the chicken bone looking part as washers are flat and full of rtv or the oil cooler itself

But my new chicken bone is a different shape i must need a new matching pipe 🤔 but new revised part is plastic.... and more cost

Ill just try get 4 new o rings and call it a day more delays! Or find somthing local LR010800x4 needed

LR050934 - new plastic version

Will be changing crossover pipe, oil cooler and gasket
Oil cooler to water pump connector

Regarding weeping rocker cover it seems the gaskets were changed in 2022 when timing chain was done as the gasket is way too soft to be 15 years old.

This means either they put no rtv on half moons or the covers are warped a tad stupid plastic .

In either case it aint worth doing for a weep right now.

If it gets worse ill budget for 8 new injectors plugs new covers and seals but that may go many years like this.

As a interim measure im going too see if i can create a little slack in situ and sneak some rtv on the half moons

I aslo need a new front right air shock as it delfated overnight ahh well atleast both front will now be new

2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

Nicely done

Replacing the bearings in those pulleys is quite a satisfying job. I've done them on my old 4.2, current 5.0 and am just about to do them on my XF too. The bearings are cheap as chips versus a new pulley too!

One of the bearings on my 5.0 was stuck in the pulley and the pulley distorted when trying to remove it. The replacement pulley that arrived was plastic

I did those ball joints on my 4.2 whilst the hubs were off the car and in the press and they were a doddle, on the 5.0 I did them with the hubs in situ and they were an utter utter sh!t of a job to do. If I'm ever doing another set of them I'm taking the hubs off and doing them in the press!

Thanks David those ball joints are bmws fault i guess!

All i manged to do in the evening is replace coupler drain and fill new oil on sc, far less play.

Cleaned oil cooler area and mounted it

Hopefully car is all buttoned up by lunch and air shock changed in the afternoon followed by front bumper and pdc fix fingers crossed!

That is a roller yes, as its a semi detached with a access drive to garden just made sense for my car shenanigans and the fact my cave is at the back.

Wife came saw me inside the engine bay!

Reaching the back is a pig but u can always climb in

Cleaned the V best i could with out being aggressive on prodcut i really wanted to take a jetwash to it.

Ill degrease and jetwash the front side in the future so it will look all pretty.

On a plus note removed front bumper and power connector was disconnected! My only guess bumper was removed for paint in its life and the foglights and front pdc had been a mystery to the previous owners or 2!

Ps where do these longer screws go i bought some spares and now muddled
