Interesting. If I unplug my EGRs, I get a check engine light. Same for my mates TDV8. 2007 3.6 TDV8

My understanding is that from around 2007 onwards, it’s not possible to get away with blanks and not remapping.

A check engine light will be displayed.

I have had my 2008 3.6 EGRs blanked for a couple of months including some long trips and, so far, no EML. John

IID pending codes:

The only confirmed codes I have are relating to AAM relating to speakers (all the speakers work though?) And a BCM missing message to do with the BBUS battery backup sounder

Had a thought last night, I fitted led number plate bulbs to both cars.

Removed and replaced the bulbs with standard halogen and disconnected the battery (reset) for good measure.

I also nipped up the clamps again on upper intercooler hoses at the intercooler side only (didnt remove the plastic engine cover)

Car drove beautifully for 6 miles or so.

Which of the 3 actions made a difference. I'm guessing tightening the hose clamps again..

Does the live data indicate any sort of boost leak? I'm absolutely sure that is what causes my problem

Silicone hoses are harder to tighten than the standard rubber ones.

This new car has genuine LR hoses fitted Graeme, purchased 3 days ago to see if they would make a difference.

The hoses I removed were genuine too.

Are you saying the problem is solved?

If not, spray some soapy water on the hose connections, whilst having someone rev the engine.

Any air leaks will be easy to identify 2007 3.6 TDV8

No not solved Cheezels. Only lasted 6 miles!

I tried wedging the accelerator so the engine held 2k rpm and spraying the hose connections.. no bubbles.

Very confusing !!

Could there possibly be a problem with the intercooler rather than just the hoses? I know you have tested for leaks but just wondered if the problem might be John

Possibly, this is actually a completely different car I'm talking about now to the one originally discussed in this post.

Unfortunately the new one has started suffering the same issues following replacing the auxiliary belt tensioner.

Things common to both cars (that I have identified so far)

Intercooler hoses removed and replaced
Led number plate lights fitted to both cars
Egrs blanked on both

Tried a few things again last night.

Fiddled with intercooler hoses - didnt help this time
Tried a battery off reset - no change

Thought I'd try fiddling with the number plate bulbs again. ( I had fitted led bulbs to both cars but recently swapped them back to standard halogen on this one)

I actually completely removed the bulbs then did another battery off reset and the car drove nice for 10 miles or so.

I realise a lot of this could be coincidence but I'm approaching it from all angles I.e. checking things I did to both cars.

Any ideas?

Have you traced where the temperature sensor loom goes in case its getting bumped when changing the hoses?

Try -

cleaning MAF and MAP sensors
Remove the EGR blanks
Rev the engine hard whilst spraying soapy water on the air cooler hose connections
Check turbo actuators are cycling when ignition switched on

I don’t think you’re suffering from loss of power from a small charge air leak
I’ve had a small split in a hose and didn’t notice performance decrease, only a distinct hissing noise.
Most Larger splits cause an alarm code

Sticky turbo actuator also generally causes a code.

The blanks in the EGRs without a remap is niggling me, however.

Just go ahead and remove them. 2007 3.6 TDV8
