New issue... racket from the front.. fast idle... temp prob

Hi all

So once again the 4.2 has treated me...

I have just got a p0116 code with the fan being on full speed all the time sounds like a space ship driving along - idle raising to 1k all the time and temp not getting hot, sat around 20%- are these normal symptoms of a temp sensor if so which one? Current stable:

Likely a failed coolant temp. sensor, although can’t help with the location on a 4.2 SC.

Thanks here is a video just in case someone thinks it’s in my head Rolling with laughter

There are two sensor - one part is interchangeable with a Ford Focus (the lower one) so hoping I can pop to ecp and they will have in for a test Current stable:

Engine coolant temp sensor, probably reading implausible error and engine goes to failsafe mode, quite easy access and no need for drawing down

Drawing down? Which one? I have managed to get the bottom one that goes into the oil filter housing as it’s shared with a Ford Focus ironically and ford had one on the shelf the top one not so lucky will have to order however it seems to be working with the bottom one unless it’s intermittent- I will get a top one anyway and stick to short drives for now...

Question re the little one at the bottom - it’s too weird shaped to get the torque wrench on so I have left slightly less threads visible as to the previous one but it’s weeping oil a bit - any ideas?

I did put draining down honestly.

Top one I changed but still now and again have the issue with the fan coming on.
Switch off then back on and all is well in the world, same dtc 0116

Right... fixed the leak put rtv sealant around the threads an tried again..

Ok so I went for a drive for about 8 miles and the temp only got to 1/3 but no fan noise, however I put my foot down and got reduced performance mode?

I then drove 2 miles further (a couple of mins later) and it shot up to temperature fine. I carried on driving about 4 miles and it was fine. I then stopped for 5 mins the dial was in the middle but progressively came down to 1/3 again on the 5 miles home?

Scratching my head any ideas? Also as a side my aux coolant pump buzzes when ignition is on but car is off not sure if that’s normal or could form part of this issue...?

Also no faults were logged Current stable:

Hi all

So lots of updates here...

After I did the lower temp sensor I managed to get the one in the top but a pattern part and EVERY time I started the car from cold and went for a drive it got to temperature and it would drop into cold and the fans would go. I turned it off and on again and it’s fine from then on...

Thought that’s what you get for a cheap part for a genuine lr one fitted yesterday... same thing still, also fitted a supercharger coolant pump
And thermostat and bled it all... really at a loss on this temperature one any ideas? Could it be the lower oil one is no good even though it’s new? Current stable:

Ok - I have just put two and two together(and wasted money)

After I got everything sorted I recently had it lpg converted.

Now my research today shows me that from cold if I just leave on petrol no weird temp fault. As soon as I put on lpg for the first time of the day the temp drops fans come on. Turn it off and on and it’s fine on lpg until the next day... any ideas on this one? Current stable:

Take it back to whoever fitted the lpg system, it's his work that's caused the issue
