sidelight LEDs

so I had a couple of LEDs left over from the PowerfulUK interior lighting upgrade kit, both 5w5 type of fitting.

Now fitted to sidelights after a bit of soldering extra terminals to each bulb.

They do a weird 3 or 4 flashs when ignition key in position 2 which is probably Canbus error due to low device resistance as compared to regular filament bulbs.

Anyhow much much brighter and now makes the headlamps look weak and yellow!

I'm wondering if there is a tried and tested way to smoke or tint the sidelight lenses to tone down the light level of the LEDs? "Gloria" 2002 L322 Voguish V8 LPG - carcass

Toning down the side light lumens is easy enough.

Just put the original 5w5 bulbs back in! L322 3.6 TDV8 Vogue. 07MY

The apparent resistance of LEDs will be much higher rather than lower then filament bulbs. The flashing is likely to be a 'cold filament check' Its a few short pulses of power and the current is measured to see if the bulb is present and working. The pulses are too short to illuminate a filament bulb but LED's are instant and on hence you see the flashes. I had this on my Touareg and I could switch off cold filament check to stop it with the diagnostics kit VCDS just like the IID tool for Range Rovers. BMW i3 Electric Car

Ah yes the cold filament test, I’ve wondered what that is in IIDControl, so will disable thanks.

Could go back to 5w5 originals I guess but they look dated vs leds "Gloria" 2002 L322 Voguish V8 LPG - carcass
