I'm not changing the rack, it's a heavy sounding knock and cant be felt through the steering wheel so I don't think it's that.

Would be interested to know if anyone has had this problem after fitting the Dunlop air struts as I don't think they are OEM and the noise on mine only started after I fitted one to my car.

Does the new strut come with top strut bearing that is fitted into the front wing turret - from what I can recall from other cars I've had they're pressed into the top rubber bush. Remember swapping some on my dad's Passat years ago because the bearings had totally disintegrated. Just a thought with number of posts on front suspension knocks - maybe people have already replaced them

Just done the drop links & no change at all on mine, still knocking over bumps. The top strut bearing that is fitted into the front wing turret? Didn't know they had one? Just a metal ring on the top of my turret & a thin, what looked like paper or rubber gasket which went back on. I'm getting a ball joint splitter today to change the bottom ball joint arm & see it that works. . .

I think you'll find that the front strut top mount is a separate item that stays bolted in the wing turret - the paper gasket you refer to is where the strut top plate butts up against the bearing and will be there to stop dirt ingress. There has to be a bearing in top mount to allow strut to swivel to steer and these may be subject to wear and play esp with weight on front end. Someone who's removed a top mount may be able to shed more light or should be shown on Rave parts diagram.

On the actual roll bar, there are 2 large rubber mountings that fix it to the subframe, is it possible that they could be worn? Never read anything from anyone about them, but they might be worth checking. Previously..

Does this top bearing stay in place or is it removed with the suspension leg? Would it be possible for it to fall out when the strut was removed or is it bolted to the bulkhead / strut top? I removed and replaced the strut but never noticed anything loos on the top of it Confused

Bearing is part of the new strut, it is he bit with the three studs on that bolts through the wing. Can't be left off.

Well another day working on the RR and the knock? Still thair Big Cry I changed the front suspension arm today at a cost of £75 for an OEM one from the dealers. Also checked all the nuts and bolts again around the passenger side wheel just to make sure I havn't missed any, can't figure out whats wrong with the thing. Never had soo many problems with a car which has only done 100,000 miles. My last car a Subaru Forester had 280,000 miles on it and I never did ANY work on it at all, the RR I have been working on it every weekend since I bought it 4 months ago. Not all trying to find this bloody knock. It's been one problem after another Twisted Evil
