The tube you can see on the LHS is the oil extraction pipe, for changing the oil.

Unfortunately no, i try that some time ago as a way to check electronic oil level accuracy, but it did not work. if I remember rightly replacing oil level sensor is mayor undertaking . 2012 TDV8 Black Edition

Thanks and what a nightmare that will be. I'm thinking about draining the oil through the extraction tube and measuring how much is in there. Ridiculous!!. However do you think it could be possible to remove the extraction tube and replace with the 3.6 TDV8 dipstick. Presumably the sump outlets will be different? Did you try this?

the 3.6 and 4.4 are different engines so if you did stick a dipstick in the 4.4 how long does it have to be...to many variables to do that me thinks..

I am not aware of anyone having to change one, but the picture in the workshop Manual shows it being external to the sump and bolted upwards ,

you could try checking fuse F20 in the engine bay fuse box and see if its blown... |

Many thanks. I will try the fuse and take a look underneath. Where you say bolt upwards, does it look like the bolt is on the outside of the sump?

Yes, it looks like 3 bolts. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Suggest, just to eliminate gremlins as a cause, doing a battery reset.
