Confirms earlier advice that it's filling up way too fast / often.
My London 20mph of sat in traffic kind of driving sees me having to do a regen roughly per tank of diesel .
Town driving - that's once every 300 miles.
Mine's had the EGR sensor fixed not that it makes any difference.

Sorry late to comment, only just got home having been out all day.
Mine did a regen on Sunday down to 6.4g.
Monday only 30 miles local.
Tuesday 15 - 20. Miles local
Wednesday zero miles
Today, 130 miles. ( 90 on motorway) other mixed local stop - start .
I didn’t actually monitor it during day but just checked it and soot level 12.5g.
Like Greg, I reckon 1 Active regen per 3- 400 miles or 3/4 tank full.

Matt,
Just a thought, you say they did a smoke test, but , has it got the modified 4 short plenum hoses, or the original very soft rubber type ?
They are notorious for splitting near the jubilee clips and will cause rapid soot build up like you are experiencing, eventually causing car to trip into restricted performance.
You need to get it sorted soon, because your engine oil will be getting contaminated.

Fair enough Matt, you seem to be getting good service from the dealer and hope we all learn from your experience.
I only suggested the plenum hoses as worth checking because they were by far the most common failure when I compiled. my 4.4 tdV8 Fault Log Post. and I know that their failure causes rapid soot build up.

Be good to see what their diagnosis will be. Greg mentioned potential throttle body issue - did LR Christchurch say that was an area to investigate?

Cracks in the Plenum chamber are common because the weld on the seam has failed, but again ,this would have shown up on the smoke test.
Unless it has had several trips onto the mainland I bet the 2nd turbo has hardly been called into use.
I am sure they will sort it .

Firstly you are to be congratulated on the amount of useful live data you have captured.
I don’t know how you have collected it all.
I rely on my wife taking screenshots on my iPad when regens are taking place whilst I am driving., but usually only manage one or two shots per trip.
Have you found an easier method.?
Secondly make sure they change the oil and filter as soon as they find the problem.

Thought I'd show a regen happening at low speed / low revs:




- regen demanded because grams are over 17.5
- ECU is happy with the following
- plenty of fuel
- constant speed for a period of time
- engine temps are normal*

then it'll regen even at 39mph

Steady speed is everything: as my grams fell below 10, the speed limit increased so seeing the burn in progress I eased up the cruise speed really slowly but it upset the ECU and the burn stopped. Leaving me at 8 grams.

As I understand, it measures exhaust pipe pressure before and after the DPF and from this calculates flow rate.
That value comes in volts, not sure why. Then, using the following black magic it calculates the grams:

- doesn't your Terraclean complicate the custody chain / handling of the issue?

Did you buy t from the LR dealer you are taking it to?

I know my intake will be clogged but I just don't fancy any chunks going through the turbos.

As for differential voltage, I've no idea. A quick scan through the workshop manual finds this:

The Particulate Filter Differential Pressure Sensor measured voltage with the ignition on checks the sensor output with no variation/pressure in the exhaust system, checking the Particulate Filter Differential Pressure Sensor adaption is working. The measured voltages at engine idle and 4000 RPM will be considerably different depending on the diesel particulate filter soot loading. The idle value tells us that the Particulate Filter Differential Pressure Sensor is working if it goes up from the ignition on value. The 4000 RPM value tells us how much soot is in the diesel particulate filter. A diesel particulate filter which is recoverable measures less than 1 Volt at 4000 RPM

Doesn't quite answer your question. But confirms 1volt is high. I don't normally see this, it's normally .7 .8 or .9

Component description of the differential sensor from the WM:

As the amount of particulate trapped by the DPF increases, the pressure at the inlet side of the DPF increases in comparison to the DPF outlet. The DPF software uses this comparison, in conjunction with other data, to calculate the accumulated amount of trapped particulate.

By measuring the pressure difference between the DPF inlet and outlet and the DPF temperature, the DPF software can determine if the DPF is becoming blocked and requires regeneration.

Pretty broad / simplistic description. I can't find anything else on values. Cheers, Greg
