Well thanks to all the comments on this topic the oil change went well with the draper pump. Followed the refill advice and what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

I popped my home oil change cherry this morning
Having the advice on here really helped a treat

Couple of observations:

1) I needed to pump a few times during the extraction to maintain flow. Air controls valve in line with handle and pointing towards spout area
2) Careful not to cross thread the plastic filter housing when putting back in with new Genuine filter (I always use Genuine parts) . It’s also a little stiff to do up but it bottomed down ok and torqued to 27Nm
3) Put bonnet into service position for easier access to filter housing area and to check for leaks

Glad it went well Rob, and welcome to the “suckers” club.

I should have mentioned that I usually put the bonnet in the service position, but that is mainly because I remove the cabin filter box at the same time. I change the filter every other year, but almost always remove it to get a better view down the back of the engine to check all is clean and dry , no leaks from the O rings.

Also whilst my hands are dirty I clean the MAPT sensor .

Don’t forget to reset the service indicator with your iid.

Well done DrRob, from one sucker to another.

You could also use the thing to help empty your fuel tank when the fuel pump and gauge goes AWOL.

I bet you got over 9 litres out, and if you took out both sump plugs you wouldn’t fill 2 egg cups., and Greg spills most of that

I also used Mike’s step by step prompts

Warm engine up to thin the oil for a few minutes.
Open bonnet and remove black engine cover.
Remove oil filler cap.
Remove Black plastic cap from suction tube.
Loosen the oil filter housing by a couple of turns (36mm) socket, but do not remove at this stage.
Connect suction pump to tube.
A couple of pumps and you will see dirty old oil starting to syphon out of engine and into tank.
Remove oil filter, being careful to catch any drips.
Watch tank filling to approx 9.5 litres of old dirty oil.
Wipe out and clean filter housing.
Remove old filter from plastic cover/ bowl and clean.
Remove old rubber sealing ring from filter bowl
Lightly oil new rubber sealing ring and replace as per original.
Insert new filter in housing bowl/cover.
When all old oil has finished draining, re- fit filter and tighten to 27 nm torque.
Remove tank suction pipe from engine tube and replace cap.
Pour in 5 litres of new oil, then add 3 more measured litres.
Allow time for new oil to settle then start engine and check to ensure no leaks around filter bowl.
Stop engine and check oil level on dash display... it may be necessary to reset if it says Not Available, using a double click on the cruise control reset switch.
Top up as required by adding 0.25 litre of new oil.
Empty old oil from tank by pouring into empty 5litre containers.
Re check engine oil level on gauge, wait then top up 0.25 litre if required.
Replace black engine cover.
Reset the service indicator if you have an iid

Hi mike, Rob,

I have been trying the suction method through the engine tube today with a 12v oil suction pump after having the engine running at idle for 10mn and wait another 10mn to have the oil running down. ‘I’ve been able to get it flow but for a ridicusly amount of oil. So after 1 hr and just a couple of drop I stopped it.
I had the oil cap open as suggested but I didn’t un torque the oil filter (not having the 36 socket)? Is it supposed to make any difference in the way the oil flows ? Is there any interaction due to the fact of losing a bit the oil filter ?
Any other guess ?

I'd have thought the oil would come out with just oil cap removed. Maybe the pump was not man enough. Sorry Tom, but I have never tried draining oil without loosening the filter..., nor have I ever tried using an electric pump.
I would think just removing the oil cap would work, but not sure.
