You will be able to loosen the filter using a large adjustable spanner , but the advantage of using a socket is that you can use a torque wrench to ensure it is refitted correctly to 27 nM torque.

Some thing to check when you change your filter. After the filter is removed take a look in the housing and you will see what I think is a piece of metal that acts as drain valve that opens when you loosen the filter. When you put the new filter in and tighten it down, the filter presses on it to close the hole.
When I did my first oil change this piece was displaced. It attaches on a plastic peg in the housing.

I think thats your problem right there. I use a hand vacuum tank type like most others on here that prefer this method and it works just fine. It still takes 10 minutes to get all 9+ litres out but its so easy. I just can't see a small electric pump creating enough negative head/vacuum.

It worked with the 12V vacuum. Ran the car and had the oil boiling hot with a 40mn drive, rest if for 10mn.

Extracted 9L over 20mn.

I did find the 36mm socket but need another am torque to make sure I torque to the exact 27nm.

Added 8.00L first and then re-checked and added additional 0.5L.

Tomorrow will go for a run to get that torque arm and finish work with the oil filter.

(Lesson for me the oil filter doesn’t help with the sucking but does the oil filter cap removed!)

Hi. I got hold of the Sealey pump. Doddle. Ten minutes for oil and filter, spent longer waiting for the digital oil level sensor to wake up  ----------------

Me too, thanks for all the tips fellas. 9.5 out and 8 in - leaving it to settle overnight before topping up.

Definitely the best filling up policy is …8 litres, leave 5 minutes to settle then top up in 150ml cupfuls.

Overfilled again by garage on annual service despite requesting 8.25L only and then I will top up
They've put 9.2L in as deducted from the dregs left over in the 5L container.
Showing overfilled warning message on cold engine after waiting 30seconds for sensor to settle reading.
